Half the field gets cut down every Saturday from here on out, until one team is left to hoist Walnut and Bronze in Stagg Bowl XXXVII on Dec. 19 in Salem, Va. So this weekend isn't all that different from any other, except that we'll lose 16 teams, most of them between now and 4 p.m. ET today.

It's the best two-hour period of the season, and it's been an exciting one, especially in the 1 p.m. ET games. Illinois Wesleyan and Wabash went to a second overtime, while St. John's and Central attempted game-saving onside kicks within moments of each other. Coe held on to knock off the top-seeded Johnnies 34-27, while Mary Hardin-Baylor recovered Central's kick to win 42-40. The Cru stopped Central's two-point conversion attempt with under 30 seconds left. IWU went on to beat Wabash 41-35. Scoreboard, updated with games in progress.

There's live video, live audio and live stats, plus we'll be updating the Scoreboard for games that aren't covered. Plus, get the skinny on all 32 teams with our annual playoff team capsules.

Johns Hopkins pulled off the first upset of the tournament, scoring the final 16 points to knock off Hampden-Sydney 23-7. Corey Sedlar was held to 16-for-37 passing and the Tigers ran for just 29 yards on 13 carries. Andrew Kase ran for 109 yards and a touchdown on 38 carries. Mount Union advanced as well, crushing W&J 55-0 and advancing to face Montclair State.

Trine is trying to do the same, up big on Case Western Reserve in the fourth quarter. Coe struck first at St. John's and led 20-14 at the half. Wittenberg crushed Mount St. Joseph 42-14. Albright set up a rematch with MAC champ Delaware Valley by knocking off Alfred 35-25 while Del Val crushed Susquehanna.

Also on Saturday, a handful of teams in the East will be playing in ECAC postseason bowl games, plus Geneva and Greenville will play in the NCCAA's Victory Bowl, ending their season.

Our picks to surprise, disappoint
It's an annual tradition here at D3football.com, where our pundits pick over the brackets and choose teams that will surprise, ones that will disappoint and decide who will win each bracket.

This year, the four pundits have a fair amount of agreement. And sure, Mount Union and UW-Whitewater are smart picks in a lot of games.

But how do we get there? Who will stand in their way, if indeed this is a relentless march to Purple Party V?

That's what we tackle in this week's Around the Nation.

Plus, Keith McMillan has plenty to say about this bracket, whether it's about the much-discussed lack of seedings and openness in this year's bracket, what he'd like to see changed, and many possible ways to look at the last Pool C decision. That and more in Around the Nation.
