No big trips for the D3football.com crew today — I’m at the D3football.com staff rivalry game. My alma mater is Catholic and Keith McMillan went to Randolph-Macon. I first heard Keith’s name while in this press box in 1996, when Keith picked off Catholic’s quarterback four times in a Randolph-Macon win.
Big games on video and audio all over the place. Alfred and Springfield already underway. Gordon Mann is giving D3football.com its first in-person look at Salisbury this season. But you guys are the eyes and ears of Division III football fandom today, as well.

Also, What happened to the scoreboard this week? I like when it’s organized by top 25, etc…

Yeah — some changes over at D3Scoreboard/PrestoSports and it’s not all put together yet.

We have cameras out there today. St John’s vs. Concordia-Moorhead, UW-Whitewater vs. UW-Eau Claire, Wesley vs. Montclair among others.

OWU-Wabash is scoreless at halftime. The play of the Little Giants appears to be driving posters to drink (for which they sound most grateful)!

Well, Millsaps is happy to be playing at home, three straight Rhodes turnovers (two INTs and a fumble) have led the Majors to a 21-0 lead with three minutes left in the first quarter.
This without starting QB Juan Joseph who is not playing for reasons I have not yet been able to divine.

Keith McMillan would be loving this game. Catholic has thrown five picks in the first half. Macon returned two for touchdowns. 24-0 Randolph-Macon at the half.

Salisbury wins 36-16 over Del Valley. I know Del Val isn’t as good this year as they have been in previous years but does this win but Salisbury in the category as one of the better teams in the country?

Pat, tell your guy that they also need to sort the games by start time - dunno what algorithm they are using now but games are scattered all over the map.
Garbage time in Jackson where it was 42-0 going into the fourth quarter and both teams are just trying to run out the clock. Rhodes has 105 yards total offense right now.

What a game of two halves. Wesleys D vitually shut down MSU in the second half. But as I have repeated time and again the turnovers will bite you sooner or later. 4 times inside the twenty without points is a killer

To piggyback on portgrad2004’s and Ron Boerger’s comments on the scoreboard, the change from 2005 to the present has not been good. Don’t know the logistics involved, but I hope you can return to a more contemporaneous and organized reporting of scores.

It took a while, but I deciphered the pattern of listings (partially!) - they ARE arranged by starting times (EDT), but the times presented are local times, so it LOOKS very confusing!

Well,
I considered going to three games this weekend. Rowan 41, Widener 0; Glad I skipped it. Wesley-Montclair, would’ve been a tough last-second trip, and the postponement made it so I wouldn’t get home at a decent hour to get the lawn cut and have dinner with family.
So I decided to make my way over to Catholic for the second half, but never did make it. I didn’t get lost, I knew exactly where I was in D.C. (S. Capitol St., then New York Ave.) and just couldn’t get to where I needed to be (N. Capitol St., then Michigan Ave.) … it’s much more annoying than actually being lost. Just turning around, turning, exploring … D.C. is the original fustercluck city. And it’s built on a grid.
I should’ve went to Montclair St.-Wesley, especially since it looks like there’s no need to go see Huntingdon there next week.
Also would have liked to see R-MC get six INTs and a W at DuFour.
Ah well. Not the end of the world.
To answer questions, I don’t think Salisbury beating D.V. “puts them on the map,” but I think four convincing wins against pretty good opponents is a decent case for the top 25, collectively. I moved them in last week.
Sounds like Alfred has the win of the week, so far.
Just for the record, I also prefer the old scoreboard style.
But even changes for the better, or neccessary ones, take some getting used to.

That is a very confusing part of town. Next time .. the Red Line? The streets with state names are what screw everything up. They pay no attention to the grid.
As for Wesley, any time there’s a race, the driving there is a complete zoo.
I considered both games but instead spent my afternoon weed-whacking a hidden wasp’s nest … and finding out just how far off I was on my SJU-C-M pick.

Minor correction for anyone who cares. Wesley did not return the second half kickoff for a touchdown against Delaware Valley. But they didn’t need to.
As for Salisbury, they looked very good. They run the ball exceptionally well (surprise!) with guys who are a wonderful combination of size and speed. Curley is proficient at running the option. The Del Val coaches were raving about him after the game. And, from what they told me, Sheahin (who has nice footwork) can also run the option.
Salisbury’s defense is pretty good, though they gave up a fair amount on the ground to the Aggies. The one flaw I did detect is they let Del Val receivers wide open a couple of times on long patterns, though only once did the Aggies convert. The defensive backs seem a little eager on pump fakes. They’ll have to work on that before the Wesley game because Clark and Beavers will make a living on that.
But all in all, Salisbury is very good.

Gordon - A few quick questions heading into MAC conference play. From what you’ve seen, read and/or heard, how would you currently rank the top three MAC teams on offense, defense and overall?

Hm. Good question.
Top Defense
Wilkes: Defense deserved a better fate than 0-3. Not many points given up and several that were came on short drives
Delaware Valley: Watch for Zach McCann and Kyle Gesswein who both played very well on Saturday against Salisbury. Being bitten by big plays keeps them out of the top spot (and keeps them winless).
Lycoming: Albright has given up slightly fewer points but has a game against Shenandoah in there. After the opening loss to IC, Lycoming held Ursinus and SU in check.
Top Offense
Albright: Best quarterback in MAC. Good WRs and tailback. Their offensive firepower alone makes them dangerous in the conference.
Lebanon Valley: Built to run instead of pass, they get close to 200 ypg on the ground.
King’s: Usually a defensive minded team, I was impressed by their ability to stick with Hampden-Sydney in a shoot out.
Notice anything about those two lists? No team is one both. That speaks to how wide open this conference is. I’ve got no clue who the favorite is anymore.
