   There is no way at all that Curry belongs in the top 5 of the east. I don’t even think in the top ten. They have a great record and they deserve credit for being undefeated thus far, but…they are simply not as good as any of the teams listed under them with the possible exception of Del Val whom I still think would beat Curry head to head. I am a huge Union fan but the Dutchmen have no buisness even being in the top ten period! They have defeated on good team so far and lost to one solid team in Muhlenburg and one underachieving team in Sprinfield from a strong conference. This poll baffles me?

   I understand your point about Curry, but given the criteria (regional winning percentage, etc), who should replace Union? That’s how you have to look at these rankings – by the criteria the committee uses, not a subjective (albeit it potentially accurate) assessment of where a team should be ranked.

   Good point Gordon, after researching the criteria the committee does use I see how they came up with their top ten spots. It is interesting though to look deeper into each region and ask ourselves who the “actual” best teams are. To me that is the fun part.

   rankings are likely to change when Hobart beats Alfred, 28-24… You heard it hear first, upset alert.!!!.. If it doenst happen, I’ll come back here with crow in my mouth, promise…

   I have to say that Curry College gets no recognition whatsoever and to see them finally get some just recognition is a pleasure. These boys for the past 5 years have busted their butts to get it done. They are on a roll to go with a 2nd year undefeated season and 5 straight conference title victories. All anyone ever talks about are the bigger D3 schools and just because Curry is in a division, that they have no control over, they finally deserve something. I am exremely happy to see them get their justification for being a small college. Maybe, all the reporters and visitors should take a good look at EVERYONE and not just the big named schools such as Hobart, Union, Alfred to name a few. The little guys can hang with the big guns. The game is played on the field and no where else. I think it is about time the little guys get noticed. It has been a long time coming.

   Angel,

   Curry should go out and play someone, anyone in a non-conference game. They have control over that. They are not required to play 10 games against NEFC opponents, yet they are doing so anyway.

   Go play someone and prove to the world you’re different than the last eight teams to win the league — a combined 0-8 in the NCAA playoffs.

    Whoa. This is the first year in the last 4 that Alfred is getting much recognition. I can’t believe angel3 mentioned Hobart, Alfred and Union and DIDN’T mention St John Fisher or Springfield both of whom are loved by the referees. Alfred has busted butt and finally made it to the Top 25. Now we have to face Hobart, Ithaca and Fisher, all on the road. Go Saxons.

    I always thought the referees loved long quiet walks on the beach, haiku and Augustana of South Dakota.

    Now you are not setting yourself up for a reason why Alfred gets beat by someone in the next few weeks?

    I try to attend several games each fall and overall, I have to say the refs are pretty fair to all teams. As for Fisher, and Springfield, they play a very consistent game and do avoid the penalties. This is a requirement if you want to be in the playoffs at the end of the season.

    If Alfred commits dumb penalties, they just won’t go too far, but, at this point I have not seem them play and their record speaks for itself.

    For the record, let’s correct Delaware Valleys record to 4-0, 4-3.

    That being said, I’m ecstatic for the recognition after the 0-3 start, which were good showings against tough opponents. The Aggies were in every game they played, even the 36-16 loss to Salisbury was way closer than the score indicates. Since MAC play began, the Aggies have had every game pretty much in hand by halftime, with 2 shutouts and an awakened offense. Now the fun begins (?) with tonights game at Widener, home to Wilkes and away at Albright over the next 3 weekends. Not to get ahead of ourselves, but for MAC fans, these last 3 weeks of the season are going to be an old-fashioned dogfight with all the top teams playing other in every combination imaginable!! Of course, my feeling is the Aggies will prevail, but that’s what being an “aggiefan” is all about. Let’s enjoy the finish either way because it’s great D3 football which so many are not priviledge to experience.

    I don’t think anyone is saying Curry does not deserve positive recognition for their achievements. Obviously the kids work hard, any student athelete who works hard in and out of the classroom deserves credit. Yet should they recieve credit that they have not earned? Pat makes a great point and one must relaize that there are many different levels to D3 football. In order to climb and be recognized with a certain group of teams you must first play those teams and have some success against them. If Curry makes the NCAAs lets see how they do. If they beat a solid program then they will get the attention you think they deserve. Until then, it just will not happen and they still are not one of the top ten teams in the east period.

    Unless I’m missing something, Linfield’s regional record is only 2-1, not 3-1, since Hardin-Simmons is a South region team.

    The lack of available DIII opponents is a real problem. And there will be one less possible convert to DIII if Southern Oregon goes to DII as reported.

    Where are the SCIAC teams? How about someone from Minnesota or Wisconsin? Oregon is beautiful in the Fall?

    AU Mom, and the rest of you Alfred Saxons…I too will be at that game and I got a feeling you may head home with some disappointment. Hobart’s 2 losses have both been nail biters and they have played some very impressive football in the past few weeks. Hobart could easily be 7-0 and just may give your team more than they can handle. That being said, Alfred is always a most formidable opponent and your season thus far, very impressive! I guess we’ll see tomarrow. Can’t wait! Go Hobart!!!!! (As you can see from my Login name, I’ve never gotten over our 8-1 1974 season, with the one blemish being at your place).

    And by the way, Angel 3…Hobart College has about 1000 students, total. That’s it! So if Hobart is a “big name” school, I guess it’s earned. Hobart certainly is not a BIG school!

    Catdomer87, the NCAA added another definition to “in-region” by including the ” four Administrative Regions” to “in-region” for the 2006 season.

    Administrative Region #4 includes Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin and all states westward.

    It does help us who are on geographic “islands”.

    Wow,
    What a bizarre thread. Refs in love with teams, the power schools like Hobart frowning upon poor ol’ Curry.

    Getting ranked in the Week 9 regional rankings hopefully isn’t the kind of recognition Curry fans really want. One thing (and possibly one thing only) will get you both recognition and respect: A playoff victory.

    There is a cool string this year (Curry over WNEC over Hartwick over St. John Fisher) that you can use to justify top 25 status (I did), but it really won’t come unless you have some significant wins over teams from other conferences — the so-called big boys — either in the regular season or postseason.

    And that goes for the whole NEFC. And I’m not saying that because of personal bias, I’m just saying I’ve been around long enough to approximate how it works.

    Why don’t the Purple Raiders get any love, we get “nobody wants to play top ranked Mount Union” but thats it?!?!?!? Don’t they deserve alittle credit, MUC is the only think Alliance has going for it……
