Ryan is driving and I’m posting from my phone as we streak along the highway in Wisconsin. Not heading to Whitewater, alas, though we will see them play. It’ll just be in the sport of basketball, in Stevens Point, Wis.
Here’s wishing some form of warmth to all at the games. And to you at home, good games to follow. Not much else to say, except that I will be keeping an eye on things courtside since my games don’t start until 2 et.
Floor is open.

December 6th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
It’s already up to 64 degrees in Belton, TX
December 6th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Cortland with the early 7-0 lead in Alliance.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
C State O did very well on the first drive…MUC D might want to get it in gear…
December 6th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
Very windy and snow flurries here in Alliance. Great opening drive for Cortland, mostly through the air, puts Mount Union behind for the first time this season. Mount is quickly driving, however, into Cortland territory.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Yeah, Cortland up 7-0. MUC radio guys can’t remember them trailing this season.
I’m getting “URL is invalid” on the Cortland broadcast, so now I don’t have to toggle back and forth between them as planned.
MUC 20-yard gain on the first play, down to the 17 in three plays.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Franklin stops Wheaton’s first drive with an INT … Wheaton returns the favor and with a 52-yd return go up 7-0 just three minutes into the opening stanza.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
As I said a couple times this week, I think Cortland can match up with Mount Union physically. If Cortland plays its best game, and can finish tackles on Kmic, they have a chance.
Kmic first down.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Kmic TD.
Wheaton/Franklin live stats have the right score, but seem to be running behind on the PBP. Either that or I’m reading them wrong.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
tied 7-7….MUC pounds the ball on the ground…
December 6th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
Kmic with the TD and 33 yards on MUC’s opening possession. Now we’ll see what Cortland can do with a MUC defense that is probably fully awake.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
Ok, i’ll bow out and let others do the play by play
December 6th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
Can somebody post the radio link they have to the cortland/MUC game. I can’t find it
December 6th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Keith, is the invalid URL code coming on http://www.wxhc.com? You may instead be on an unofficial stream, and that’s why you’re getting the error message.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I think we have a ballgame in Alliance. Sitting here in my hotel room in Chicago listening to Rick & Mark.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Watch the fake! 4th and 1 foot for Cortland.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Kmic is amazing…….
December 6th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
im not even there, but I think its safe to say Cortland is the best team MUC has seen all year…
December 6th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
Frankin gets inside the Wheaton 10, have to settle for a short FG, 7-3 Wheaton. They are having probs with the live PBP.
Kind of surprised Cortland didn’t go for it on 4th and short in MUC territory. You don’t get a lot of chances like that.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
Mount now opening it up while they have the wind.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Pat and Keith,
Hope you guys have fun with that great WIAC matchup in Point today. I live about 20 minutes away from there, and was thinking about going home for to watch that one, but Wartburg winning kind of changed that plan.
Sounds like a fun game early on in Alliance. The snow has stopped here but still very cold and windy. I’m heading up to The Perk in a little bit to watch the show. Enjoy the games everyone!
December 6th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
I dont know guys….I feel like Cortland should have gone for it….would have made a statement if they made it….
December 6th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Sorry, should have said Pat and Ryan.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Cortland making a goal line stand….Mount attempting a field goal.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
It was ittersagen on the INT for the TD for Wheaton. Rupp has 3 drives and only 3pts.
Wheaton at the Franklin 20
December 6th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Cortland forces an MUC fourth-and-goal, fourth Purple Raider FG attempt all year.
21 yard FG. 10-7, 1:11 1st.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Field Goal good…..10-7 Mount.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Cortland D earned MUC respect…MUC kicks the FG….
December 6th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Now, will the REAL MUC D PLEASE STAND UP?
December 6th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Nice defensive stance from Cortland. Its been a great week in Upstate NY listening to the Cortland fans and alum talking about this game.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Nice defensive stand by Cortland as they stuff Kmic twice and a third-down pass falls incomplete. They need to respond on this drive as MUC’s offense was clicking until that point.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
Got the radio broadcast from the WRMU site. Sounds like a good game. I wish I was there!
December 6th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Mount D is stepping up. Going to make Cortland punt into the wind.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
Just wait. He didn’t come out scoring against Otterbein or North Central either. Franklin’s O will put pressure on for all 60 minutes, and in the game I saw, Rupp started to get a feel for the D he was seeing late second quarter.
Not saying Wheaton can’t stop them or outscore them, but I wouldn’t read too much into the first three drives.
Ittersagen is a pretty huge weapon. If he wasn’t AA before, his playoffs sure seem to be sealing the deal.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
Three and out for Cortland.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
wheaton drives to franklin 10. norris runs in for a TD but holding brings it back. sacked on 3rd down and a 41 fg for wheaton makes it
wheaton 10 franklin 3
wind is a big factor. wheaton has wind at their back in 1st qtr. rupp will have wind in 2nd qtr.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Now that Mount is going INTO the wind, let’s see if Cortland can stop the “Nate Kmic Show”.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
Wheaton driving. This is their first time with the ball really.
Rupp has 15 passes in the first 8 minutes. He’s throwing 60 times easy today at that rate
December 6th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Big return for MUC and Kmic gains 18 on the first play, MUC at the Cortland 30.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
BIG first down for Mount!
December 6th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Micheli’s legs are the X-factor.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Franklin driving and inside the red zone, it’s all Rupp, all the time.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Cortland is TOUGH within the red zone.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
so far mt union has been twice held to FG’s inside the 10..we will see if that will be a factor in the game
December 6th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Another big goal-line stand by Cortland. Need to capitalize with a good drive right here.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Only down 13-7 and the wind at their backs for 10 more minutes. Let’s see Ray Miles open it up.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Another moral victory for the Cortland D, but unless the Cortland offense gets on track it’s going to be just another MUC W.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Cortland with a big return to MUC 35.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
special teams showing to be an issue for MUC again…
December 6th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Another nice run with a poor kick into the wind
December 6th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
I have to admit. The Mount Union radio guys are MUCH better than the Cortland guys. I usually listen to Cortland’s broadcasts, but today I couldn’t get it to work so I am listening to Mt. Unions’ They are very professional and non-niased. THey also do a good job in both the play by play and the color. I can follow the game well.
LET’S GO DRAGONS !
December 6th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Rupp brings em down and scores. 10-10
ittersagen with a huge kick return to the franklin 40. wheaton at the franklin 30 w first down and driving.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
10 all as Rupp finds Deffner from 15 yds out on third and 10 for Franklin’s first TD.
Total yardage: Franklin 164, Wheaton 39.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Sounds like an MUC sack on fourth-and-5.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
WHAM! Big play by Mount’s D on 4th down.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
anybody there in Alliance…was that a catch there a few plays ago for Cortland…
December 6th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Franklin needs a new web server. Getting lots of broken HTML so apparently the server’s not handling the load very well. Wheaton’s inside the FC red zone.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Gingg carries guys into the endzone. wheaton 17-10. 10 min left in 1st half
December 6th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Cortland’s D now stepping up and tackling Kmic.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
No, it wasn’t a catch for Cortland – definitely bounced first. Good call.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Yeah, I agree, I’m enjoying the Mount crew.
The Franklin-Wheaton audio isn’t working for me either. Anyone listening to Gordon?
I usually don’t have problems with audio or video, at least on the Mac, but even if it’s something I’m not doing, you figure if a somewhat computer savvy D3 guy can’t get the broadcast (not that I’m trying a lot of options here), a lot of fans can’t either.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
I had Gordon but lost him. listening to Franklin webcast now.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
They have put the clamps on Kmic so far–hope I didnt curse it.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Rocky Gingg takes it in from seven yards out to put Wheaton up 17-10, 10:04 to play in the half.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Micheli makes it happen again.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Wheaton forces a punt. Franklin kicks it out of bounds. Wheaton w ball at their own 25
December 6th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
this sounds like one of those classic cold as hell days in Alliance…I’ve sat through so many of those….gives me chills just thinking about it….
December 6th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
WOW is Cortland’s D tough in the red zone!
December 6th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Big sack by Red Dragons D
December 6th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
Gingg with 65 yds in 1st half. If they can reel off 6+ yds per carry its a good sign for the Thunder. Wheaton at close to midfield
December 6th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
Great, neither of the live stats are working consistently now.
And the UMHB feed says “Live Basketball Action” – LOL
December 6th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
First and goal Mount….
December 6th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
damn.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
GO PURPLE RAIDERS – PUNCH IT IN!!!!
December 6th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
TOUCHDOWN Kmic!
December 6th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
Micheli run on 4th for MUC down to the 12.
Re: radio and internet video, I’m thinking one of these years a winning technology will develop so everyone’s using the same thing. Right now you have so many different carriers and different things opening up different programs. It’s not a major inconvenience when it works, but it would nice …
Kmic scores to cap a long drive before the half, 19-7 pending PAT.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
Snow starting to cover the yard lines here in Alliance. Mt. Union completed a big pass on 3rd-and-12 from the 14 to the 1-yard line and then punched it in on the next play. 20-7 with 1:06 left in the half.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
@ Td’s down. With 1:06 left and the wind to our backs, we need a score to end the half.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
What a great battle so far……Cortland appears to be the best team by far that Mount has played this year.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Wheaton moving again. at the Franklin 39
December 6th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Need 53 yards in a minute with the wind at our backs. Need a score.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
sweet – okay, I know Micheli is a great QB and his career no matter how these playoffs end has been absolutely stellar…but Nate Kmic is the glue of this team’s offense….He and the Mount O line continue to tow the line…..
December 6th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Said that last week too.
Nobody turns the audio down during commercials, but at least I haven’t heard any F-bombs on the timeouts.
MUC can take the ball to start the 2nd half too. Cortland would like some points before the half … and gets a catch that takes them across midfield(?) to the 32.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
20 Yard pass. Come on Ray, we need you now. Look for the G-man.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
2 plays
Cortland TD. Wow.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
There is no doubt Cortland has a quality program. I live thirty minutes from Cortland so I know first hand. They will compete.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
TOUCHDOWN CORTLAND STATE !
Kmic may not have 3 games left after all….
December 6th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Cortland completes two big pass plays and scored a TD on a Jeffrey Lang catch with 41 sec. left. PAT good – 20-14 Mt. Union
December 6th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Wow….look out….Cortland just answered……quick.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
20-14 just like that.
December 6th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Gingg running right over Franklin now. another 8 yds after a 20 yd norris to pokorny connection. Wheaton 1st and goal
December 6th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
THe Red Dragons best team since 1988.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
UMHB will start near their 40 after a short kick.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
And yet he may.
This is why we listen.
I don’t really understand the furor over that comment. I guess if you want to paint it like he’s looking past people you could. But every team in the playoffs is taught to aim for the Stagg Bowl. You telling me if you went to Mount Union, you wouldn’t?
December 6th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
MUC secondary has got to pull it together….adjustments, adjustments, adjustments will be needed to win this ball game.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Franklin w a good stop inside the 10 on 3rd ddown but pass interference gives wheaton a 1st down again at the 5.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
in the snow – Cortland hanging tough
MUC 20
Cortland 14
Perhaps UB beating up on Ball St is the East’s first step toward stepping up to the North.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
Key to the game is simple…wwhich tem will have a better 2nd half quarter with the wind at their backs ?
December 6th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
Mount going to attempt the hail mary into the wind maybe?
December 6th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
The big thing Wheaton has done is keep Rupp off the field. 2 and change left. 2nd and goal.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
Bryson Tucker rips off a 50-yd run, UMHB in the W&J red zone after three plays.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
What happened against Ithaca?
Honest question.
These outtakes are pretty informative actually. Apparently the footing really takes away from Kmic’s game.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Touchdown Wheaton. they lead 24-10 with just over 2min to play in the half. (pending xtra pt)
December 6th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
7-0 umhb long run on the opition set up the score
December 6th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Big possession w 1.53 left. If Franklin can get pts its a different game.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Great first half……..should be a great one in the second.
Mount gets the ball, so let’s see if they can take back control.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Wheaton is once again knocking on the door of the final four……
December 6th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Ray Miles made poor decisions and turned the ball over too many times. It is their HUGE rivalry game, and when they fell behind a little, he tried to force the action and do it all himsef…he then left the defense on the field all day..add to it poor weather conditions and poof, an aberration of a game. If you look at Ray Miles career, you will see it was just an aberration.
As much as I would have loved the undefeted seaosn, I think it made them refocus.
20-14.
Shoud be a great 2nd half.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Great first half. Nice broadcast on the Mount radio site also. Onto the second half.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
I’m with skunk….( didn’t think Id post those words today….)
Mount gets the ball….they need to score….and then a strong D stand…
easy to say….and with Cortland today, hard to do….
December 6th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
We’re going to get Gordon set up on a better stream here in a bit.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Three and out for W&J as Swallow gets sacked for -8 on third and long.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
UW-W draws first blood after recovering a fumble. 3-0 early.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Rupp makes a huge completion on 3rd and long. franklin w ball in wheaton red zone 1.11 left in half. all 3 TO’s. plenty of time for Rupp. He has been as advertised so far.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
i think Cstate89 was saying that this is Cortland’s best team since 1988…
You may have already interpreted it like that Keith….I just thought Id mention….
December 6th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
14-0 umhb opition pass
December 6th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
24 seconds to go. Rupp at the wheaton 19
December 6th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
Saenz finds Davis for 35 yards and a score on his first pass on the day. 14-0 UMHB with five minutes gone in the game.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
3rd and 10 for Franklin. Time Out Franklin. this is really big for Franklin
December 6th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Franklin still outgaining Wheaton by a lot, and it’s 80-80 in rushing yards.
But 24-10 on the scoreboard. Thunder just put together an 11-play, 75-yard drive.
If the Griz can’t get any stops and are trailing by 14, might not matter how many yards they put up.
Can’t say I’ve been able to follow that half or the story of that game as well as Cortland State-Mount Union.
This is the crazy 2 hours here, with all four games going on.
Sure wish I could TiVo these suckers and watch them later.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
We should be good for Gordon Mann from Franklin now, out of our portable Stevens Point, Wis., studios.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
batted down. FG attempt…..good.
24-13 Wheaton.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
OK, so it wasn’t just me. That sounds like it could be a good one to listen to.
Yep. Him saying that made me wonder why they got beat so badly when “lesser” Cortland teams hadn’t. Bad day? Rivalry? Weather? Something Ithaca did?
December 6th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
Perhaps UMHB’s Bryson Tucker should have been included in the survey of who will get the most rushing yards….75 yards in the first 6 minutes of the game. UMHB 14 W&J 0.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
Another three and out for W&J. The Presidents, trailing 14-0, have -7 yards total offense as Swallow is 0-3.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
wj better wake up or it could be a repeat of 2004
December 6th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
… and UMHB gets a great return inside the W&J 30.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
All of Franklin’s rushing yds are Rupp scrambles. Very tough to stop 5 receivers and a good running qb.
Rocky Gingg with 83 yds on 16 carries.
Norris is 7-11 for 72 yds.
Rupp is 18-32 147 yds 1Td and 76 yds rushing.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
21-0 umhb
December 6th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
Saenz takes it in from 18 yards out. The rout is on. 20-0 UMHB pending the XP.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
D3Keith, I addressed your question on the Ithaca game in a prior post…take a look.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
Guess I’m the only one updating the scoreboard from Franklin-Wheaton.
Rupp 18 of 32. I think after his first 15 completions he’d hit 6 guys at least twice. He also has 76 rushing yards.
The defensive TD for Wheaton seems big.
Usee, I guess it’s just you … What’s the story of the half there?
Sometimes listening to all the games means you don’t get a great feel for any single one.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Antwan Anderson scores from seven yards out and Whitewater increases their lead to ten over Wartburg.
-22 yards rushing and one first down for the Knights.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Touchdown WHITEWATER Anderson carries it in
December 6th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
WOW..MHB
December 6th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
MHB really looking like they want a 4th shot at UWW
December 6th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
I gotcha. That was for MUCNash who was asking why I was asking or trying to clarify your statement for you.
I guess we aren’t really achieving clarity by addressing it more, but we’re good. Thanks.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
21-7 umhb 5.22 left in the 1st. drive started at the 40 of WJ
December 6th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
Swallow’s found his rhythm with two completions to Craig Besong and just that quickly the Presidents are at the UMHB 21.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
Hope they can get the field decent…..
December 6th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Dang I hate when things happen as I’m typing. Good series for the Presidents, now can the defense respond?
December 6th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Live stats fixed on Mt Union website…
Anybody listening to the Cortland-Mt. Union game braodcast agree that the Cortland fans seem much louder than the Mt Union fans ?
December 6th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
Man, Wartburg is throwing it all over the field
December 6th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
Wheaton-Franklin coming through now. Good fix Pat.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Another short kick by the Presidents, another good return by UMHB’s Matt Hurst, the Cru are in business at the W&J 34.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Could be just the placement of the crowd mics. MUC fans tend to fill up the far side (non-press box side) of the field first, which is backwards from most D3 stadiums.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Keith,
Rocky Gingg is the story as he has 83 yds on 16 carries. 5.2 yds per carry is not good for Franklin. Look for 40 carries for Rocky if this continues and limited Rupp chances. Norris has been efficient after an early pick 7-11 for 72 yds.
Rupp is as good as advertised but wind is a factor. Wheaton with the ball to start the 2nd half. That will be a big possession. Remember, Franklin has been on fire in the second half of their 1st two playoff games.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
CSTATE……broadcast is on Cortland’s side. However, Mount fans aren’t usually that loud.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
umhb 21 W&J 7 1st quarter
December 6th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
The live stats on the feed from the Mount Union webpage have been refreshed and ready for the 2nd half.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
umhb in red zone
December 6th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Tell Ric & them to refresh, the score updates are all there
December 6th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
By my count, the road team is 13-11 in the playoffs coming into today.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Yeah the crowd mics at the Mount game are right below the WRMU announcers so it is amplifying the Cortland fans
December 6th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
Big play for the W&J defense as UMHB has a third and one at the W&J 13 – Presidents call timeout.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
I got frustrated a lot with how lethargic the MUC fans in the home stands could be at times….hope they are cheering this 2nd half!!!
December 6th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Half time numbers…
Franklin: 234 yards on 47 plays. Rupp is 18-32 for 147 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.
Wheaton has 151 on 30 plays. Norris is 7-11 for 72 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.
Ricky Gingg has 83 yards on 16 carries. Rupp has 76 yards on 12 carries.
Pete Ittersagen with three huge plays in that half. The interception return for a TD was big as was the kick return that set up a Thunder score to go up 17-10. But he also had a teeth-jarring hit on Cole Zook where Zook came down with a near TD but was separated from it by Ittersagen before his fee touched down.
There’s a booth near the field that says “Free Heat.” Today they probably could’ve charged.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
umhb on W&J 13 facing a 3rd &1
December 6th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Dragons better make some progress in the 3rd quarter with the wind on their side. If I were Mt Union, I would have the ball to Kmic every play to run the clock down…so I hope Cortland focuses on him.
Here they go.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Apparently they are brand-new phone lines at this Franklin HS stadium — Gordon got booted six times and Franklin’s radio four times. Now we’ll be carrying Gordon via cellphone to my laptop and sending it out through there.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I like the live look-ins too Pat, much more convenient than toggling during the half.
I know this is nothing new, I just don’t always get to check it out from this end.
UMHB 21-7 3-something in the 1st
December 6th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
UW-W misses a 33-yd field goal, still 10-0 there.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
COME ON RAIDERS – bring it!!!
December 6th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
Big 3rd down play coming early in the 3rd.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
Gordon is outside the ‘booth’ also… !!!
December 6th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
muc01……sometimes you don’t know if they are alive. With this cold we may lose a few today!
December 6th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
28-7 umhb.. opition cant be stopped
December 6th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
UMHB 28 W&J 7 …still in the the 1st quarter
December 6th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Touchdown UMHB p a good , UMHB28 W&J 7, 2:03 in 1st
December 6th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
If you guys had any idea as to the comical way we’re getting this done today you would be laughing your butts off. It’s like we’re back in 2001 here.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Fumble Warhawks. Wartburg with the ball on the Warhawks 35
December 6th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
UMHB gets their first down. The third holding call of this series on the next play pushes them back to the 21, but Saenz gains 19 on the next play and then Matt Hurst takes it in from two yards out and it’s 28-7.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Here comes Kmic! Let’s see if Cortland can stiffen again in the red zone as they did previous times.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Mount HAS to score a touchdown this time!
December 6th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Let me guess you have a guy on a stationary bicycle pedaling to provide power too. We can imagine it and we are appreciative to the effort in getting the games to us a d3football. You huys are awesome
December 6th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
presidents: that appears to be the only way to beat W&J this year… with the option.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
YES! Great start Raiders!
December 6th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
I said FOCUS ON KMIC ! Coe on D. At elast if they score we get the ball and the wind to keep it close.
It does annoy me how they keep talking about his 100 yard 1st half when he ran it 22 or so times.
26-14 pending the point.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
TD!!! okay D….now its your turn
December 6th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
Pat,
Can you define the roles for us:
who is holding the two seperate power cords together and who is the guy duct-taping them together?
December 6th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
Pat, We appreciate the duct tape solution!! it’s the only way we are hearing these games. Thanks to you and your team!!
December 6th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Kmic gets 57 yards on the opening MUC drive and the Raiders extend their lead to 27-14.
That’s 160yds and 3 TDs for Kmic so far. For most running backs that would be career game but Nate still has nearly an entire half to go. Wow.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Swallow fumbles on the UMHB 23 after a quick 47-yd drive. 1:28 left 1Q.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Wheaton with a 1st down but then Franklin gets the stop. Wheaton will punt on their first possession.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
USee, all great minds think alike.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Interesting, it sounds like Franklin took the wind in the 3rd qtr.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
DUCT Tape is a wonderful product. I hope you used your swiss army knife also!
December 6th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
WJPA announcer notes that UMHB is gaining at least 4 yds on 1st down, every time.
UMHB overcame 3 holding penalties on the 34-yd 7-play (4th) TD drive.
UMHB Saenz runs for 24 on 3 & 6. Ball on the W&J 49. W&J takes their 2nd timeout. 0:25 1Q.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Wheaton picks off the 3rd down pass and has the ball deep in Franklin territory.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Big play for Cortland right here…
December 6th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Now 17-3 as Wartburg can’t figure a way to stop Whitewater. 8:54 left in the first half.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Mount’s D steps up……..
December 6th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
UMHB Saenz to Davis 34 yds. to the W&J 15. FD
UMHB rush for about 3. End of the first. UMHB 28-7.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Great bounce Mount’s way……this drive starting at the 37. If Cortland doesn’t hold here it could be a long rest of the game for them.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Ginng pounding the rock—Wheaton at the Grizzly 14, 1st and 10. he is over 100 yds early in the 3rd
December 6th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
“That’s 160yds and 3 TDs for Kmic so far. For most running backs that would be career game but Nate still has nearly an entire half to go. Wow.”
He has 29 carries for crying out loud. Considering he is the #1 rusher in history, I would expect him to have at least 160 yards, even in this weather.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
104 yards rushing for Josh Saenz in the first quarter. UMHB outgained W&J 264-100 in the opening stanza and is in the Presidents’ red zone again.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
And still has to go through Mount Union.
Gingg TD makes it 31-13 wiht PAT
December 6th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
Touchdown Thunder–Gingg for 7 yds.
31-13 pending xtra pt.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
Big stop for the Dragons Defense.
I didn’t know Mt. Union even had a punter on their roster.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
Cortland holds…….nice job by the D….this game is still happening.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
Saenz had 7 carries for 103 yds. UMHB had over 200 yds rushing in the first quarter.
Tucker 12-yd rushing TD. PAT good 6 plays 77 yds 1:29 off the clock.
UMHB 35-7; 14:55 in the 2Q.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Youch 35-7 at UMHB.
Guess the game to listen to is either at MUC or UWW. Go figure.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
once again Mount getting burned deep…..COME ON GUYS!!!
December 6th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Oh boy…….how did they not intercept that pass…….Cortland moving the ball.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
I lost the webcast, I better get it back soon, we just completed a long pass into double coverage…
December 6th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Cstate…
I think they are talking about the TD total. If Cortland State had a RB with 3 TD’s in that length of time in a regional final game, I’d bet my 401K that there’d be a similar reaction by the same people and Cortland State fans.
Enjoy the game, man. You’re team is playing well.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Mount’s D holds again…..
CSTATE……5.5 yards a carry isn’t good? Why are you derisive about Kmic’s stats?
December 6th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
What ahppened ? Did we punt or turn it over ? I just got the webcast back.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Is that bad?
I realize what you’re trying to say, that he’s an average yards per carry so the total yards at that rate shouldn’t be that amazing.
But perhaps the 22 (or 29 in a later post) carries this early on is amazing.
Some teams hardly run that many plays in a half.
Also, you gotta give MUC credit for riding their horse since they have (had?) a young/inexperienced team this year, for the most part.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
Micheli and Kmic are doing their “senior thing”. They are the difference so far.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
That W&J defense is going to tire out.
W&J starts at the W&J 23-yd after an 11-yd KOR.
Swallow to Church 12 yd to the W&J 35.
Swallow Incomplete, but W&J holding penalty; back to the 25. Still 1st down.
Jones runs to the 31. 2 & 14. 13:35 left.
Swallow sacked for the second time; credit Eric Henri with the sack;
3 & 22 — Swallow sacked again, by Bristow, and he fumbles. UMHB ball at the W&J
Punt –
December 6th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
5 yards a carry is good of course, but it is expected. If you are going to hand the #1 rusher in history the ball 30 times in 2 1/2 quarters, you have to expect 150 or so yards…
thank g-d for the flag.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
Arrrggghhhh….what a bad time to get your first penalty of the day!
December 6th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Holy Cow….UMHB scores again.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Rupp 4-yard TD run. 31-19 … they are going for 2.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Error above. Swallow fumbled on 3rd down on the pressure. UMHBN takes over on the 18.
UMHB rush for 6, rush for 6 more.
UMHB from the 6, rush for 4; Saenz gets the QB sneak for the TD from the 2. PAT to come. UMHB 41-7.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Rupp leads Franklin down the field. Wheaton offsides on 4th and 4 (pass was incomplete). Rupp finishes w a run from 5 yds out, TD Franklin.
Franklin to go for 2.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Can’t follow the stats for MUC. what is the score there?
December 6th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Rushing yards: UMHB 225 W&J -4.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
First down…..Reynolds has made two big catches.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Ralph,
What do you mean W&J’s defense is going to get tired?? MHB is averaging 10.5 yards a snap on offense… despite the points they’ve given up, they haven’t been on the field long enough to get tired.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
27-14 Mount……Mount has the ball and across midfield.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
UMHB 42-7 10:55 in the 2Q. (Illegal procedure on the first PAT attempt which was good. Second attempt was good, too.)
We McMurry football fans can take solace in this game versus UMHB.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
Gong tobe a tough task. Down 13 to the #1 team in history, on the road, in a windy snowstorm, and going into the wind in the 4th…
Wow.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Ittersagen TO THE HOUSE on the kickoff return. WOW.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Saints, I think that the time of possession is about 12 to 7 in favor of UMHB.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
SaintsFAN…..good point. UMHB is scoring at will.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Micheli has made big throws on 3rd down all day. 14-19, 190+ yards.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
However the morale of W&J has to be low at this point.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
CSTATE, yeah it’s going to be tough for your team, but I think they are playing the best game that Mount has seen all season. Cortland is playing one heck of a game. But my Raiders will still pull it out
December 6th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
For the record……the officials ARE from a NY conference.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Have we even had the ball this quarter ?
December 6th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Cstate, I can guarantee that Cortland’s game plan was not to allow Knic to rush for 250 yards and 5 TDs regardless of his standing as the #1 rusher in history.
I don’t know why you are taking offense. The dude’s having a monster game and I acknowledged it. Hey, UMHB’s Josh Saenz has 106 yds and 2 TDs in 1 1/3 quarters, so he’s not the only one today.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Cstate , UMHB did it in 2004. UMHB scored the last 17 points in the fourth quarter against MUC to win in Alliance, 38-35.
http://www.d3football.com/story.php?story=7129
December 6th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
COnditions effect both teams, not only Kmic but the defenders as well. Just an FYI to the used to be unbiased Mt Union announcers….
Things arent looking too good, but if we can make a comeback in these conditions, that would be incredible.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Interesting to know Ralph. Even superman cant handle cryptonite.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Wheaton forces a punt. Ittersagen back to recieve…..out of bounds.
Wheaton leads 38-21. get ready for the Rocky Horror picture show.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Again… a huge part Kmic’s game is the ability to cut at full speed.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Cortland had the ball 3:00 minutes in 3rd
December 6th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
W&J — 2 FD’s to midfield.
Loss of 1 rushing.
Swallow incomplete pass to Besongat the UMHB 35.
(Swallow 8-13 135 yds 1TD so far.)
Swallow sacked by Aguilara (the CRU’s 4th) back to the W&J 41.
Punt short hits at the 33 and rolls to the UMHB 26. 7 minutes left. Only 3+ minutes for that W&J drive. UM HB 42-7.
UMHB 1 & 10 on their 26.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Franklin gets their 1st 3 and out of the game. Only the 3rd time they have stopped Wheaton today. Rupp to go to work. 3min to go in the 3rd
December 6th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Ok, Ill admit.
Kmic is pretty awesome and the announcers are pretty fair. Im actually enjoying the webcast, not easy for me to enjoy the oppositions broadcast.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Touchdown Kmic! The kid is just nails.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Big return
December 6th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Good return…..CSTATE can still get back in this.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
I will take the opponents broadcasters anytime, especially if I am able to listen to the game. It is tough being biased for your own team, but they are doing a decent job.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
UMHB update. Its 42-7 Cru. UMHB has the ball with 4:30 to go in the half at the 50.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Saenz is an interesting story for UMHB.
Sat behind Welch for all those years.
Suspended for the first game of the year.
Replaced as starter at QB the last few games of the regular season by Noack.
Starting again after Noack got hurt.
Playing great football in the playoffs.
Seems like a very confident kid (at least at the post game conference last week.)
December 6th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
don’t tell Grossman that he’s being fair, he might get a big head
December 6th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Rupp long pass to Wheaton 33. This game is not over with him at the helm. Kevin Lynch (WR for Franklin) had his shoulder dislocated, went out and got it popped back in place and is back in the game. Tough kid.
Franklin at the Wheaton 20
December 6th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
4th and 7 for Rupp……interepted by Wheaton.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Franklin outgaining 359-213 but trailing 38-21 after Rupp’s 3rd pick.
Late 3rd qtr., I believe.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
UMHB 49 W&J 7….1st half still.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
UMHB — Hurst runs from the UMHB to the W&J 5. 59 yds… Called back by a holding, back to the UMHB 33. 1st and 3. (UMHB has had 4 holding calls.)
UMHB — Hurst for 7. FD
UMHB — Hurst for 5,
Saenz for 4 to the UMHB 49,
Saenz QB sneak – 1 yd FD.
Hurst — rush for 1
Hurst — rushes for 4.
Saenz –keeps on the option to the 35. 10 yd gain. FD (Saenz 11 carries 120 yds).
Hurst — rushes up the middle for 13 yds FD at the 22 (Hurst 10 carries for 55 yds.)
FB rushes for 1.
Saenz — Scott TD pass 21 yds. PAT good UMHB 49-7 1:21 left in the half.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
Ugh…I never give up or say die, but the fat lady is warming up.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
UMHB putting the rest of the field on notice….my goodness…
Hate to see Ray Miles out of the ball game in Alliance….
December 6th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Mount’s D has played well in the crunch. Mount definitely answered the challenge today, and Cortland gave them all they wanted.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Kmic will get his yards today….but UMHB has nearly 300 rushing yards in the first half as a team.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
You talking about C. St. and MUC? I thought they said Centennial, which would be Pa./Md.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Oh geesh…….don’t get hurt with a cheap shot Kmic….
December 6th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
I know the conditions probably hurt Kmic and Mt Union as much as us, but I would love to see this game on a dry, sunny 50 degree day.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Ooops…..I heard Ric/HSCoach say NY…my bad.

UMHB 48-7 … Saenz TD pass
When do you call off the dogs if you have potentially the defending champions the following week? Do your guys need work or rest/protection from injury?
December 6th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
W&J starts at their own 25 with 1:14.
Jones for 3.
Jones runs for 5.
Time expires. UMHB 49-7 at the half.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
4th quarter now. Wheaton at the Franklin 40. grinding clock.

Keith…it’s always the question…..when do you pull them?
I would say one or two series at the most in the 3rd quarter.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
skunkssidekick – that wasn’t intended to be a cheap shot at Kmic…He is an obviously talented individual. I was just pointing out that UMHB as a team is putting up some impressive numbers.

Especially when you frequently run two crews in rotation… only 52 players on the road trip.
In Texas Six-man football, we have a 45-point rule in the second half af a game.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
So what do you tell your team when you’re a thousand miles from home and down 49-7 in the NCAA quarterfinals? You have to feel for those kids and the coaching staff.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
vhwon,
I believe he was talking about the personal foul called on Cortland State as the “cheap shot”..
December 6th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
I feel for W&J’s play-by-play guy, that going to be a long second hald, especially when you’re in the booth by youself.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
45-227-4 for Nate Kmic.
Not a bad day.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Im outta here. im in Southern California and it is a beautiful day.
Good luck in the final 4 Mt Union, you are impressive as hell.
CONGRATS TO MY DRAGONS FOR A KILLER SEASON, THANKS FOR MANY ENJOYABLE SATURDAY MORNINGS ON THE WEB.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
thats ONLY 5.04 per carry, Pat
December 6th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Wheaton with a 4th and 3 at the Franklin 21. Norris on the keeper gets the 1st down. Wheaton will run the clock some more. Norris on play action complete to the 9 yd line.
It’s all going Wheaton’s way right now.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
SaintsFAN….ok…my apologies. Thanks! I guess I missed that.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
You just want a do-over
It did look pretty promising for a while there, I don’t blame you.
So Wheaton looks like it will reach its glass ceiling in MUC … interesting storyline, as would be the other two teams in the lead, UMHB vs. UWW.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Wheaton with a 4th and goal from the 2. Norris fumbles the ball and Franklin has it. They tried to put the final nail in the coffin and Franklin with life but they have Rupp.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Yeah, definitely need the analyst then to throw out stuff … memories of the successes earlier in the season, start reviewing who’s coming back next year.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
I know LK respects the heck out of Swider, and it appears Wheaton is playing well at the right time. Should be a great one.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
If the weather wasn’t a factor the spread would be the same, but just more scores for each team (IMO).
December 6th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Funny story here. The Schwanns delivery guy stops by the house. Sees my Mount Union hat and sweatshirt on. Laughs and says he was from Ohio Northern and played football. I said come and listen to the game as I had it on the radio stream and showed him the postings too. Another funny part of the story he works in Cortland.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Wheaton holds on 4th down in Franklin territory. Wheaton with the ball and 7min+ to play.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
it would be nice if the MUC guys in the ball game would not fumble the dang ball…
December 6th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
I have seen Wheaton/MUC 5x. I would love a battle that Wheaton can win but I am not optimistic. I said Kmic was the best I had seen 2 yrs ago and Micheli was a great qb, it doesn’t appear they have gotten any worse.
I would love to give the Purple Raiders a game in Alliance but I am a realist.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
So including today’s 227, how many yards does Kmic need to break the all-classification career rushing record?
December 6th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
wasn’t this an issue earlier in the season with the back ups, muc01nashvegas?
something thats forgotten in all of their runs, is MUC (and all playoff teams) get extra practice time. I’m sure LK will have an eye on the future as he reminds the youngsters in practice how much of a sin it is to turn the ball over..
December 6th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
wow Mount Union Defense held Cortland to 0 yds rushing and 200 yds passing.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Here’s to the semis!! Both games will be good….that UWW-UMHB game should be quite a game….those teams are so familiar with each other….
December 6th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Another Wheaton TD. 45-21 (xtra pt pending)
December 6th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
I will be moving on to some women’s basketball… Thanks for the updates.
Big game in the ASC… McMurry women and UT-Tyler women (watch out for those lady Patriots…they may be the best in the ASC-East.)
GO CRU!
December 6th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Wartburg with a 57-yard score and it’s 20-17.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Wow..I know UMHB would like another shot at UWW, but Wartburg is welcome to come to Belton as well.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
It’s a final in Franklin
Wheaton 45 Franklin 28.
Wheaton runs the ball for 220 yds and over 5 yds per carry. That is the story
December 6th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
UWW radio makes the point that Wartburg is comfortable playing from behind … and this seems similar to the Willamette game for them.
Thoughts?
Wind an issue there too, or at least the strategy of who’s gonna have it at their backs in the 4th

It’s been argued before that for UMHB to pass the ball is to call the dogs off….they’re averaging 10 yds a carry….Tucker also didn’t carry the ball in the first half after the first six minutes
December 6th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Wartburg looks very comfortable.

December 6th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Cool, not too late to get on the video feed. Thought maybe with the other two games ending and the other one being “over” it might be tough.
20-17 to start the fourth … good times!
December 6th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
WOW….blocked Field goal by UWW.
December 6th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Was that a blocked FG att?
Tending to kids in the bathtub, I knew I would regret getting up on that possession.
December 6th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
It was a blocked FG.
December 6th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
UMHB scores again!!!! Go CRU! UMHB 56 W&J 7!
December 6th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Saenz is out of the game for UMHB already.
TD for UWW. Wartburg lost the momentum with the blocked FG.

December 6th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
WOW….Final Rushing yards….UHMB 399 W&J -5 UMHB wins 63-7
Congrats to W&J on having a great season!!
December 6th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
34-17 UWW final.
Gotta think UMHB is the early fave with that game at home and the way they dominated today. But should be a lot of speculation since UWW has won the past 3.
December 6th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
It will be a great game!! UMHB has been able to dominate the last two weeks…but Whitewater is a powerhouse team and as you pointed out UWW has won the past 3.
December 6th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Congrats to all the teams today!!
December 6th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Keith, CState and others, thanks for the kind words on our MUC broadcast. Hope even the Cortland guys enjoyed it, at least a little. We try very hard to tell it like it is.
To the Cortland fans: Your team played well and hard. Congrats on a great season. You were definitely the best opponent Mount has faced this season and by quite a large margin. Ray Miles made some very good throws, but the lack of a running game killed the Cortland offense.
I’ve been kind of hard on the MUC O-line this season, but they played their butts off today. GREAT job picking up the Cortland stunts and blitzes. Easily the best effort all season by the guys up front.
Can’t remember who made the comment about the footing, but it was a skating rink after the first 10 minutes. If Kmic gets the ball 44 times on a dry track, he’d have had 300+. His biggest attribute is his vision and cutting ability, but the icy field completely eliminated him from making a cut.
December 6th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Already looking forward to next Saturday and UWW-UMHB Round 4. Congrats to Wartburg on a great season as well, and their fan support was among the best I’ve seen all year, especially considering the weather today. I would love to have them come back for a NC game sometime soon.
December 6th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Kind of off topic, but how is that UWW-UWSP basketball game going?
December 6th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
Back-and-forth game early, with SP leading 9-7, 14:27 1st.
December 6th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
Kmic needs just 287 yds. to break Danny Woodhead’s record. Run Nate Run!
December 6th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
Check the Current Poll. Is it supposed to say “All UMHB wins” or “All UWW wins”
December 6th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Thanks Guys! As much as I wish UMHB had won those past meetings, can’t change the past. Only look forward to next week.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
I will miss the UWW-UMHB game next week. I have booked a flight to the east coast to see my high school team play in the state championship. To be honest, I just tried to cancel the flight, but too late. I guess I will listen via webcast on the plane.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
Only one complaint today at UMHB. The visitors side concession stands were closed. C’MON, THIS IS THE 3RD ROUND OF PLAYOFFS, OPEN THE DANG THANG NEXT WEEK FOR UWW.
December 6th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Cru,
I’ll try to send you a personal e-mail too if I can find your address, but there should be video next week.
The past several years, ESPN sends a not-live crew to the semifinals to get footage to splice up for the Stagg Bowl (and perhaps for their broadcasters to watch, but I wouldn’t know, just seems like i good idea).
And then on top of that, NCAASports.com has made an effort the past few years to webcast the semifinals.

All of you guys do a great job @ D3.COM. I am not computer savvvvvy but compared to other sports sites; things are really easy to navigate through on this website.
December 6th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
Last weeks loss by Monmouth is killing me right now. Up 28-14 on Wartburg with a third quarter drive that could’ve put the game away and re-opened the flood gates that saw them rack up 240 yards and 28 points in the first half. 4 second half turnovers later….
Oh well, it would’ve been great to host the defending champs, but I digress. Scots return 10 starters from the nations top scoring offense including Alex Tanney who’s just a sophomore…he has to be a leading All-American candidate next year.
Anyway, after a 4-0 week this week (not tooting my own horn), here are my semifinal predictions:
UHMB: 35
UWW: 21
MHB has too much offense and Whitewater has been inconsistent all year. Yes, they went to Oregon and beat Willamette, but you won’t find Willamette in Texas nor will you find the Warhawk team that won the ‘07 title.
MUC: 42
Wheaton: 21
This will be close early but there is too much talent on the MU side for Wheaton to stay in it for 60 minutes. Great season by the Thunder…
December 7th, 2008 at 1:37 am
I guess it just goes to show you numbers don’t mean anything—-W&J came into the UMHB game with the 4th ranked offense I believe and managed 7 points and just a little over 200 yards total offense with (-5) yards total rushing. They also had a decent RANKED defense that got shredded by the run——–I believe UMHB had almost 300 yards rushing by halftime if not more——-just goes to show that numbers don’t mean squat. Game still has to be played and players still have to sweat and suit up.
December 7th, 2008 at 10:32 am
CaptainCru,
NUF SED, GREAT POINT!!
December 7th, 2008 at 11:05 am
A dominating “performance” by UMHB yesterday. All us CRU supporters have expressed concern over the great number of injuries “we’ve” had this year….but in retrospect it may have been for the best. A lot of second and third team players have…had to “step up”…and have gotten at chance to develop their skills “under” tough game conditions. Surprise, surprise…..UMHB now has a very DEEP bench…..they could very well GO ALL THE WAY and win it all………(and I personally expect them to).
December 7th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
GoScottie,
I said this last week, Mount will not give up 21 points. Cortland was big, strong and fast, #94 on the defense was a monster. To all of the UWW, wheaton, and UMHB fans who weren’t there, Cortland played almost a perfect game. Their coach may have actually outcoached LK and crew in the first half. One penalty
maybe two all game. However, as I said after Hobart, teams need to play 60 minutes of perfect football, not thirty! Mount 42 wheaton 10. UWW ends UMHB season. Great job Cortland!
December 7th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
R24aider,
I don’t think so. If you are going by size and numbers then UMHB has played competition that makes MU’s opponents look like boys club teams. How many ranked teams has MU faced in the playoffs——-1. UMHB has defeated 3 ranked teams and 2 ranked in the top ten. UMHB plays 60 minutes and DON’T forget————–UMHB is the only team to beat MU at home in I don’t know how long———obviously MU needs to take a lesson in playing 60 minutes because they were ahead in that game 35-21 and lost 38-35———–got to play 60 minutes, not relax just because you get a 14 point lead on a good team. I have seen big monsters as you called it–doesn’t mean they are great players, just means they take up a lot of space. UWW is not the same team they were last year and UMHB isn’t either but they are playing better football since their loss to Southern Oregon———–they stomped Wesley(46-14) and demolished W&J(63-7)——I suppose next you are going to say those were a couple of cupcake teams. See you in Salem and bring your A-game and expect to play 60 minutes. Just because you are ranked number #1 doesn’t mean you are the best——–like I mentioned before, game still has to be played and players have to suit up. You were ranked #1 last year and lost in the Stagg Bowl———that’s like the Patriots going undefeated the entire year and losing in the Super Bowl————-sure they had a great season but could they really say they were #1———–NO!!!
December 7th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Not taking anything away from UWW, they have developed quite a program and I’m sure they have a great team as well and by the sound of it, considering many said this was a rebuilding year for them, they have done extremely well. I just don’t think this bunch from UMHB is ready to turn in the pads just yet and don’t think they want to lose to UWW for a 4th time. Given that, I’m sure this will be quite a ballgame and looking forward to seeing the action.
December 7th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
CaptainCru,
If you have seen my posts before I am always saying stats mean Jack this time of the year. Mount is ranked number one by people that have that vote, not fans. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. You seemed all pumped up with history UMHB beating Mount. Mount was no. 1 in total offense and defense this year and so far they’re proving why. Secondly, don’t even start telling me Mount needs any lessons in anything, they have achieved milestones that your grandchildrens grandchildren won’t see UMHB accomplish. Mount will be in Salem in two weeks and you and the Cru nation will be home watching, again.
December 7th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
R24aider, if stats don’t matter why is your first argument against CaptainCru about stats and your second is based on things that happened in the past? Also I would be surprised if MUC was not the #1 offense and defense the year the Cru beat them so I don’t see how that really matters anyway.
December 7th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
R24aider…I’ll say one thing, you are confident in your opinion….I seem to recall the same kind of comments from others..before the UMHB-Mount contest a few years back. There was NO WAY UMHB could win…..
Now about the game with Whitewater….I don’t think Whitewater is nearly as good as they were last year. Their one lost this year was to unranked UW Stevens Point….UMHB’s was to an NAIA team (Southern Oregon). WW played one ranked team during the regular season…Eau Clair was ranked 14th when they played the FIRST TIME….yeah they played them twice during the regular season??? UMHB played one ranked team during the regular season…Hardin Simmons was ranked 21st. In the three play-off games to date Whitewater has defeated teams ranked 24 and 6 in the final D-III poll…also one unranked team. UMHB has defeated teams ranked 8, 7 and 19. UMHB has been challenged this year with injuries but seems to be reasonably healthy right now and they are hungry for the opportunity to face WW again….this one will be the charm….UMHB by 10!!!
December 7th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
wow, you cru fans better worry about the defending national champions and not Mount. We have enough on our plate with Wheaton. If you guys are as good as you think you are, we’ll see you in Salem and then the barking can begin.
Good luck gang.

December 7th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
Hmmmm…. I was looking forward to some good natured banter renewing the UWW/UMHB rivalry. But it looks as if UMHB fans are a little disinterested and would rather go ahead and mix it up with Mount fans a week early. Maybe I can convince the UWW players and coaches they are wasting their time going all the way to Texas to dare to challenge big, bad UMHB. Or maybe, just maybe, the Warhawks will show up….
December 7th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
bleedpurple: For MY part….don’t know how the discussion with/about Mount got started….but I don’t think anyone down here in Texas would give serious thought about LOOKING PAST Whitewater!! I know the UMHB coaching staff is focused on Whitewater!!! They’ve beat “us” three straight….but I really think it will be different this weekend….tell your “boys” to come on down……
December 7th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Pretty sure they are planning to be there Sarge. When the season started, the two greatest obstacles to a championship for every program in the country was UWW and MUC. Now in week 14, there they both are, staring UMHB in the face. Not all that much has changed from week 1 for UMHB in that respect. UMHB has survived to take their shot. Welcome to the fray…
December 7th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
bleedpurple: No serious person could ignore MUC’s history nor the impact that they’ve had on D-III Football…year in and year out they’ve been “in the hunt”…as has UWW…they’re both great progams. Now, having said that, don’t forget that UMHB has only been playing football since 1998….they are a very NEW program, compared to MUC and UWW. But, in that short period of time they’ve STARTED on a history of their own. They played for the national championship after just 6 years….and to get there, they beat the team that “couldn’t be beat”….at home!! I think you’ll find that UMHB has the highest respect for both of those programs….that doesn’t mean they can’t be “bold and bodacious” and have great confidence in themselves. If you don’t think you can win, maybe you shouldn’t suit up!!
December 7th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Unbelievable…I give MUC a compliment and it’s not enough…I get slammed because I gave Wheaton 21 points.
Well, R24aider, to continuously repeat that MUC hasn’t allowed 21 points this year is not to say they won’t at all. I distinctly remember them giving up 21 at some point last season, now let’s see when was that….oh yeah the only time they gave up 21 last season was the last game of the year. Now I know it may be a stretch because only the mighty Otterbein Cardinals came close this season, and the last time Wheaton scored 21 in Alliance was 2002, but after scoring 104 points in the last two games it might be a bit of kick in the baggets to say they can’t score more than 10 on MUC. I realize MUC is good, if not great, but Wheaton probably deserves some props for what they’ve done thus far. One more thing, I predicted a 42-14 MUC win last week and it was 41-14…just as a side note.
Quite honestly, I think UMHB is playing as good, or better, than anyone in the country right now and will be the national champions when it’s all said and done, so put that in your pipe and smoke it with your 21 points…
December 7th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
GoScotties,
I am more of a cigar guy, but thanks for the suggestion. Great job on your amazing prediction last week, I hope you got a raise at work for you genious! I just made a confident statement regarding the Mount defense from seeing them play. I just think there will be a 30 pt difference. I sincerly hope not, the Mt. faithful were pumped when Mt. was only up by 7 to a great Cortland team. I would love Wheaton to come in and the game come down to the 4th quarter. Wheaton is one of the top 4 teams in the country right now and talking to one of Mounts d coaches two hours after the C game, he was in the second run of Wheaton tape, so I know Wheaton is good. Finally, you keep thinking, if Mount and UMHB meet we’ll see who’s the best.
December 7th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
It will be very interesting to watch how this final 4 plays out … but I will be especially interested to see how Wheaton stacks up against Mount. One last note for Franklin from me — A huge note of congratulations to Mike Leonard and the Grizzlies for providing an absolutely thrilling season and an unexpected run to the quarterfinals !! As a parent I could not be prouder that my son is associated with a first class program and had the chance of a lifetime to compete at this level. Thank you Mike.
For USee – I want to offer my opinion regarding your last notes about the Franklin-Wheaton game:
“Wheaton runs the ball for 220 yds and over 5 yds per carry. That is the story”
The real story was 2 HUGE plays by Ittersagen – a defensive td and a kick return td. Of the 220 rushing for Wheaton, almost half came in the 4th quarter. Yes, that kept Rupp off the field, but until that point, the Thunder did not run that well and they still led 38-21. Their offensive line did control the game almost throughout, but Franklin still outgained Wheaton in total yards 446-325, 85-68 in plays,29-21 in first downs, and held Wheaton to 3-10 on third down conversions. The difference ends up being BIG plays and TURNOVERS (isn’t that often the case in the playoffs ?), not necessarily the running game.
Good luck to the final 4 … all of these athletes make people proud to be associated with them – they are the best that college athletics has to offer !!
And one last time — GO GRIZ !! (Let’s reload in ‘09)
December 7th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
R24aider – Alright, I got a little carried away there…just some friendly banter. My line of thinking is this: MUC seemingly winds up in this position every season so one might say that they are just as strong as they are in any other typical season. Meanwhile, aside from the fact that they are normally in the same region, Wheaton and Mount are meating for the first time in the semis. Thus, with some deductive reasoning, you might assume Wheaton is stronger this year than in years past when the two have met. That’s why I gave Wheaton a little more cred than others.
I understand that you are just being a confident fan…I apologize.
Truth be told, Wheaton’s strength is the run and that probably isn’t a good matchup for them with the MUC defense. I also wouldn’t expect them to get the turnovers they’ve gotten in the last two games. At the end of the day, they might not score at all. It is what it is…a prediction, a guess, a D3 football fan enjoying the post season.
FYI, I lost my job due to spending too much time on the internet…JK

Forget about R24aider and MUC for now. UWW is the defending national champs, and it is UWW who will be in Belton next week not the runner-up.
Remember, UWW (Beaver. UMHB held him to 66 yrds.) ran all over MUC in the Stagg last year. UWW is my focus because they are the champs and they will be in TX. MUC is what it is, but they still have a game to play and anything can happen. In 2004, UMHB 38-MUC 35, you can do it Wheaton!!!!
UWW fans, you must try the Shiner Bock beer made here in TX. I know you guys like beer up there.

For full disclosure, I am a UWW fan, so I want to first say how impressive it is that they have made it this far, given the massive amount of player turnover from last year’s team (many of those seniors played all 3 championship games). I know every team has turnover, but I have to believe UWW has lost the most in terms of skill postions, including defensive secondary.
That said, I agree with the posters that feel this team probably isn’t as good as teams of the past, leaving UMHB with a whole lot more reason to be confident. Seeing how UMHB has destoryed their last two playoff opponents, it’s hard to imagine any team could be playing better or have more confidence.
I felt last year’s schedule provided UWW with the advantage in playing MUC for the championship. Having to beat UMHB to get to the big game was as tough a challenge as you can get in preparation. I am hopeful that the types of teams UWW have played in the playoffs will help them vs. UMHB. Willamette was such a unique offense-maybe the defensive preparation will help UWW against UMHB?
I am not sure, but I thought I read that UMHB does some option? Do they pass much? In the games I saw UWW play, they seemed more susceptible to the pass than they did to the run.
Congratulations to the final four and all teams that made the playoffs. This is the best time of year.

Justin Beaver was asked after the Stagg last year, ‘who has the toughest defense you have played against. He replied “UMHB by far and it was UMHB that really prepared them to beat MUC. I just hope we can beat UWW this time, they are the champs and it will be close in Belton next week. With that here are my predictions this week. I faired pretty good last week, so here it is guys.
MUC 42 Wheaton 21
UMHB 21 UWW 17 (of course the score could be easily reversed) Yes, defense will rule the day!!!! Both of these teams play D.
Stagg
MUC 28 UMHB 14

Sarge, I don’t take issue with anything you said. UMHB deserves props for sure! And yes, they should enter any game they play with the expectation of winning.
Cru: Shiner Bock it is! Yes, we like beer!!

mikem17,
UMHB’s base offense is the option and they run it about 25 times a game and run another 20 times between the tackles, old school, but it works. Pass, 10 times a game maybe, but very effective because they pass out of the option. Teams are set up and when least expected the ball goes in the air and teams are not ready and a big play results.

This is good———–everyone is taking little jabs and it’s only Monday. Stats are great for discussing but it boils down to who shows up and who doesn’t. As I stated earlier, the game still has to be played, the players have to sweat and suit up. UWW has a great team and to lose the talent they had and still be just as good says a lot in itself BUT, the same could be said about UMHB as well—————-heck, they lost the defensive player of the year but it hasn’t stopped them from getting 13-14 sacks in 2 games. They lost their pre-season all american running back in the 2nd game—————hasn’t stopped their offense. SEE, just another stat. Let’s just wait for the smash mouth to do the talking, after all, that’s the way it should be.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:22 am
UWW————–WELCOME TO TEXAS WITH A BIG YEEHAW! For all you northerners, that is a Texan’s way of showing excitement.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:24 am
cru crushed: Well,….while I personally think it is a bit early to be predicting scores for the Stagg Bowl….I must say that I am disappointed in your prediction of the outcome!! IF UMHB is fortunate enough to get passed UWW and make it to the Stagg…..I think the UMHB bench will be the difference…..earlier posts spoke to ” teams playing a full 60 minutes”. UMHB does that and they do it with a lot of loss in efficiency….primarily because Coach Fredenburg has been able to develop such a deep bench…..(the “unexpected”….. but welcomed consequences of multiple injuries!!)
December 8th, 2008 at 10:26 am
Obviously I meant ….”withOUT a lot of loss in efficiency” …it’s a bit early yet…

My predictions for this weekend are as follows:
MUC—-42
Wheaton—-10
Sorry Wheaton, couldn’t really give an educated guess on a closer score cause I really hadn’t heard that much about you guys this year. Just basing on MUC scores for the season————-again, it’s a stat thing BUT I am pulling for you——————–it gets old seeeing the same teams playing in the Stagg all the time.
UMHB—-27
UWW—17
Even though I don’t think this is the most talented bunch there has been at UMHB, they always seem to put it together and play as a team———–No one person stands out over anybody else and that is a good thing———–maybe the best thing for this group. They never give up and always play hard. Obviously UWW has a good team or they wouldn’t have made it this far but I think UMHB has the determination and grit to keep it going another week. I really had my doubts about UMHB last week before the W&J game but they proved me wrong——————–they completely destroyed a seemingly very talented team(at least on paper)—————-makes you stand back and wonder, How would MUC or UWW have fared against W&J. Good luck to both teams and I commend both on a great season no matter who wins.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:08 am
I was not surprised to see MHB beat W&J, but I was surprised by the relative ease of it. I figured MHB would be too much over the course of 60 minutes and would pull away for a 3-4 TD win, but I never thought it would be complete domination. Especially when played in sunny Texas with W&J’s passing game. If I had to predict a final score for that one, I’d have gone with something like 56-31 in favor of MHB.
I think we know exactly how MUC would do against W&J since they’ve been scrimmaging each pre-season for quite a while. And it wouldn’t have been pretty for the Presidents. W&J has historically had some very good QB’s but they get absolutely get manhandled at the line of scrimmage in the Mount scrimmages and they have little toughness on defense.
This season’s scrimmage saw Kmic take the opening handoff 60+ yards untouched for a TD. It was his only carry that afternoon.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Sorry, but scrimmages don’t count. The D3 “experts”(nothing aginst you guys) had the W&J much closer—————not even myself imagined a blow-out of this proportion. WOO-HOO——————that was a spanking!
December 8th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Not assuming that the Raiders will beat Wheaton, because as far as I’m concerned nothing this late in the playoffs is an automatic and Wheaton has played great football…and for that matter, UMHB still has to beat UWW, which they haven’t done for three years now…but I can’t help wanting MUC to get a piece of UMHB in the Stagg..Pretty funny if you think about it…The Buckeyes and the Longhorns are going to mix it up in DI, and MUC and UMHB might mix it up in DIII…Ohio and Texas just love them some football….
UMHB fans, should you make the trip to Salem…do you think playing in the cold, and I mean THE COLD, would affect your team at all…have they had to do it much or at all this season…Last years game in Virginia was an ice bowl….
I’ll make this my only post looking past this weekend…no good talking about “maybes” and “what ifs” before anyone has won anything…for all we know right now, it could be Wheaton and UWW….the only thing that matters is whats done on the field this Saturday…which is why I love DIII football…
December 8th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
Amen to that! Git er done!
December 8th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
I’m very concerned that UMHB has all they can handle with Whitewater. But, I am glad it won’t be on a frozen field this Saturday (although anything is possible with central Texas weather). The first quarter is all important for UMHB. We HAVE to be able to run the ball. We can NOT fall too far behind.
Let’s assume that the Raiders handle business this Saturday against Wheaton because, let’s face it – they do 99% of the time. I think either Whitewater or UMHB can give them a game. They are all hungry teams.
(Putting the cart ahead of the horse) – Can UMHB win on a frozen field against a monster like Mount Union? Youbetcha. Because of UMHB’s style of offense this year, I think they can score on any field. It’s all based on how the option is defended. This year, more than the past, UMHB has other running plays as well. If the defense cheats up, Saenz will throw when he needs to.
I agree – this isn’t the best team UMHB has had in the last five years by a long shot. But they are playing better the last three weeks than any of the teams we’ve had in the past. Hopefully they can put it together for a couple more weeks.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
CaptainCru-
Point well taken regarding UMHB player turnover and depth.
I agree about not getting wrapped up in numbers-afterall, look at the stats MUC brought into last year’s Stagg. But the numbers are fun to look at anyway, it passes the time until the hitting starts.
I have to think UMHB would have a great shot at beating MUC if they get passed UWW. Although MUC took 2 of 3 from UWW, all the games were pretty close (relative to games MUC played to get to the Stagg). The UWW run defense will be an excellent test for UMHB. If they prove capable of beating UWW, then I believe we should all expect an excellent Stagg Bowl. Pound the rock against MUC and worry less about their O. The same holds true should UWW win. Like last year, beating UMHB would give UWW a big boost against MUC. I don’t mean to slight Wheaton, it’s just that they haven’t had to play the type of team they will see in MUC, so I am not confident they will fare all that well against them.
The weather station predicts 70 degress and sunny in Belton- wow! In reading the posts, it seems people feel the better weather will favor UMHB. I am not sure why unless they have a bunch of speed- UWW is not slow, and better weather may help them in their passing game, which is where they have been weak.
I just found out the game will be on NCAA.com, GREAT.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
I agree, just a few more good weeks of solid UMHB football, they could win it all.
December 9th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
I figure its time to finally chime in. I played for UWW in the mid nineties. All solid teams, but none ever went anywhere. Sometime at the end of the decade our coach started to talk with Mount’s coach. Something changed in the program. I don’t know the small details, but now they win the close games and can play against anybody. Once they played and got crushed by MUC for a home and away series, they discovered how good you really needed to be. As long as they keep that up they will keep going to the playoffs.
This year UWW fielded a whole new team. They have several great wins against great teams that my teams would have lost to. No big stars out there now, just a system. I hope my boys can make it past UMHB. Every game has been tough as hell against them in the past but I seriously don’t think they ever see a team like this down south. Last year they were killing everyone they faced until they played the Warhawks.
Wartburg played well, called the perfect play against the defense that was played, and scored a couple good touchdowns that looked easy. They had ZERO running attack threat. UWW shut that down completely. 3 big passes that went long resulted in all their points. UMHB will have their hands full no doubt. I wish it was televised instead of the boring PRO games now that there is no good football on TV for a month until the LAME and meaningless Bowl games begin.
December 10th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Hey, how about a headline here for UMHB on the front page. We have seen Wheaton, UWW and MUC so far, why not anything for UMHB?
December 10th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
Love these conversations. As an MUC grad living in Wiscoonsin and with a son who graduated from UW-Whitewater, our family has had a rather stressful but fun relationship these past three Stagg Bowls. My wife and I were at the rain/sleet/snow/freezing game last year, and though it’s hard to admit, Mount was outplayed. In our house, we say the Raiders got “Beavered.”
I love Div3 football, both the web site and the football itself. Give me a choice between the Wisconsin Badgers playing the Michigan Wolverines or the Purple Raiders playing the Warhawks, and I’ll take the latter every time. Every time! It’s football as it was meant to be played. We MUC grads do get a little cocky from time to time, but in our hearts we are deeply appreciative of coach Kehres and all the fine young men he has taken through the program. So of course we hope we make it again to the Stagg Bowl.
One quick question: Last year I really enjoyed watching the semifinal games on the Internet. Is this an option this year? We can always get the radio broadcast on WRMU in Alliance, but it is a whole lot more fun to see the game.
Thanks, and keep up the great work you all do with the D3football web site. And good luck to all the teams this Saturday. Yes, even Wheaton. What a job they’ve done this year!
December 10th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
There are still three days left until game day and we will have the UMHB feature later in the week. It says on the top story that more is to come, right?
December 10th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Well, if it does it must be in fine print somewhere. Besides, when you are excited about the coming weekend, you tend not to pay attention to small print——————you usually look for the big BOLD letters.
December 10th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
I agree CaptainCru. I love Pat and the boys, but show the Cru article, already.
December 11th, 2008 at 11:37 am
I think I have good news for you Warhawk fans! I’m almost positive that NCAA.com will have both games on for free on their video feed. That is to say, if you pull up the video screen, it says they will be there. I almost wish I was home to watch both games.
But, I’ll tough it out at the game instead.
Warhawkguard – I watched all of UMHB’s home games and the game against UWW in the playoffs. It’s true that we play a lot of under-talented teams and stomp them. That’s true of MOST good D3 teams (I mean…Mount Union doesn’t really face anybody all year either). But, we DO see some VERY talented (and BIG, and FAST, etc) teams. Hardin-Simmons would be in exactly the same spot as us if they got past us in the first round I think. They were big and fast and well coached. That’s what amazed me about Washington and Jefferson – The were fast and must have been well coached – but they were TINY. They looked like grocery baggers compared to our guys.
The big difference last year is the weather I think. If the field is frozen or slick, it makes our bread and butter play – the option – useless. It’s no secret. We need to be able to cut back against the blocks that get pushed down the line. Without that, we’re in trouble. This game Saturday will be played on field turf. We HAVE a passing game and if we get behind and we HAVE to use it, I think we can. But we’re in more trouble than if we don’t have to use it. I don’t think this will be a 17-6 type game like we saw last year.
If UWW can throw and UMHB can somehow run – it’s high scoring.
