CLINTON, MS — Mississippi College (6-2, 5-1 ASC) turned the ball over seven times as Howard Payne University (4-4, 2-4 ASC) ruined homecoming with a 38-24 upset of the 13th-ranked Choctaws in Robinson-Hale Stadium.ASC Howard Payne

Howard Payne played near mistake-free football with no turnovers in the game and just four penalties. They took advantage of the seven turnovers to pile up 523 yards of offense led by quarterback Zach Hubbard who passed for 453 yards and five touchdowns by completing 27-50 passes.
The MC offense ran for a season-high 321 yards led by junior running back Steven Knight who finished with a career-high 218 yards on 34 carries. Choctaw senior quarterback Adam Shaffer finished the night 22-40 for 209 yards with two touchdowns and five interceptions.
Despite the mistakes, the Choctaws pulled within 26-24 late in the third quarter when senior receiver Tarkan Weston hauled in a 51-yard touchdown pass from Shaffer. But a fourth quarter interception and fumble deep in their own territory ruined the comeback attempt.
The Choctaws are on the road next week travelling to Alpine, TX to face Sul Ross State University.
