Statistical spotlight Each Monday during the regular season we look at some of the key statistical performances from the weekend in Division III football, highlighting one per region. Coast Guard struggled with time of possession in the first half of its game against Bridgewater State and trailed 14-10. But the Bears put it together in the third quarter. Taking over after a punt was downed on the Coast Guard 2-yard line, the team went on a 98-yard drive, holding the ball for an incredible 22 plays. Coast Guard converted four third downs and two fourth downs in the drive, which gave the Bears the lead in a game they eventually won 24-21. Quarterback Christian George ran for 194 yards and threw for 51, though backup Niles Pierson scored the touchdown when he came in for relief on the final two series. The drive took 8:39 off the clock. Harrison Dull is healthy again and causing trouble for Chapman’s opponents. He caught 10 passes for 216 yards and three touchdowns in the Panthers’ 38-20 win against Whittier, with all three scores coming in a 6:42 span in the second half. They were his first three touchdowns of the season. Trinity (Texas) defensive back Shaun Irchirl helped keep DePauw’s offense off the field on Saturday. He caused a fumble and intercepted two passes as the Tigers of Trinity, who led 26-21 at the half, held the Tigers of DePauw off the field on offense for 22 minutes of the second half. He also had five tackles, all solo. Case Western Reserve linebacker Tom Brew, a Gagliardi finalist last season, recorded seven solo tackles (21 total) in the Spartans’ 20-17 overtime win at Carnegie Mellon. The Tartans ran for 205 yards but averaged just 3.3 yards per carry. Scroll down for the weekly ATN podcast and more weekend coverage. | |

Feelin' loopy ATN's take From Lake Shore Drive to the Eisenhower Expressway to the Tri-State, Keith McMillan and Pat Coleman hit all around Chicagoland on Saturday, making for a fairly long day. But six stadiums, parts of three games and five or so hours of sleep later, they certainly had a story to tell. It's just a question of how coherent it is. To find out how they did, listen to this week's Around the Nation Podcast. Did Augustana regret spiking the ball on first-and-goal from the 7 with 46 seconds left? You'll hear coach Jim Barnes' hindsight reaction. How does the IBFC compare with the CCIW? (Unfavorably, that's clear on paper, but there were specifics to be seen and described in person.) And elsewhere, how did the rest of the Division III weekend shake out? That and more in this week's Around the Nation Podcast.
