Journell goes from head to assistant Tom Journell has resigned his position as head coach at Elmhurst to become defensive coordinator at UW-Stevens Point. He's the second head coach to take a coordinator position in the past two years. Journell, the former defensive coordinator at UW-River Falls, returns to the WIAC. "I spent 15 years in the Wisconsin system so that plays a big role," Journell told D3sports.com. "It's about opportunities for my wife and personally I have to be unselfish and do what's best for my family. The Pointers went 6-4 under head coach John Miech this past season, 3-4 in the WIAC, and were seventh of the eight teams in total defense in conference games. "When you look at the Wisconsin system, you look at retirement, you look from a competitive standpoint, it's pretty easy. I don't mind going back there," Journell said. "It's great football, it's the best Division III football in America and what John Miech has done in his tenure I really respect." "We all certainly want to thank Tom Journell for the leadership he has provided to the Elmhurst College football program," said Elmhurst athletic director Paul Krohn. "Tom has been a true professional and has been unselfish of his time and dedication in building and sustaining a level of successful football at Elmhurst College. We wish Tom and his family luck with his new position." After posting a 4-6 record in his first season in 2004, Journell guided the Bluejays to three consecutive 6-4 finishes. His 22 career victories rank him fifth all-time at Elmhurst in career wins. A search for a new football coach will begin immediately. Elmhurst's application deadline is July 2. | ||
