Presentation has announced the construction of a new
eco-friendly synthetic turf practice football field with
construction set to begin mid-May. The field is expected to be
ready for practice as the Saints prepare for their inaugural season
in 2011. In addition, the Strode Activity Center will be renovated
to include an expanded locker room area, training room, and
equipment storage space.
The field will measure nearly 110,000 square feet and consist of an infill system of silica sand, recycled rubber granules and spined monofilament to create the look and feel of a natural grass field.
“The practice field is a great example of what can happen when a common vision is shared by a determined group of individuals,” said football coach Andy Carr. “This field will benefit Presentation College in a multitude of ways for years to come.”
The field will also provide opportunities for other teams in the athletic department. Both men's and women's soccer, baseball, and softball will benefit from the field.
This spring, the Presentation softball and baseball teams have
had limited outdoor practice opportunities due to weather-related
field conditions. Currently, those teams have held practices
indoors. Baseball coach Alex Ferguson says,
“The new field will help our students get out of the gym
earlier in the season which will prepare us for more game-like
Athletic director Rick Kline said the new field shows a commitment to our current and future students, including student-athletes. “The addition of this field is yet another part of the exciting growth happening at Presentation College.”
