NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central was picked to win its sixth-straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) football title according to a preseason poll announced Thursday.
The poll was announced in conjunction with the CCIW’s third annual Football Coaches Chat, which took place via the CCIW website.
The Cardinals won the poll with 48 points including six first place votes after winning the CCIW’s outright title and the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship last season. North Central has won at least a share of the CCIW title every season since 2006.
Wheaton placed second in the poll with 44 points and two first place votes after earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship and advancing to the second round last season.
Illinois Wesleyan placed third with 33 points, followed by Elmhurst (31), Augustana (28), Carthage (20), Millikin (13) and North Park (7).
Voting is done by the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin's head football coaches. Each coach votes for the seven other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (seven points for first, six for second, etc.). Coaches may not vote for their own teams.
