Greenwood to play in Shrine Game

Albion defensive back Chris Greenwood will have the opportunity to showcase his talents in front of NFL scouts as he has been selected to participate in the East-West Shrine Game. The game, to be played Jan. 21 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., will be televised on the NFL Network.

Greenwood was a third-team D3football.com All-American in 2011 and was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Defensive MVP. He intercepted two passes (returning one for a touchdown against Alma) and wrapped up 24 tackles, but those statistics do not indicate the impact Greenwood had on the game.

Greenwood’s teammates took advantage of having a side of the field shut down as Albion tied for the MIAA lead with 15 interceptions.

He finished his career as a three-time all-MIAA first team selection.

“The East-West Shrine Game is one of the biggest senior all-star games left,” Albion Head Coach Craig Rundle said.

According to the Shrine Game’s website, 246 players who have played in the game are on current NFL rosters. Former NFL head coaches Brad Childress and Bobby Ross will coach the squads.

“Chris has great individual talent but what makes him special is he blended with the team and did not seek the spotlight,” Rundle added. “He is one of the most humble kids we have on the team.”
