Before Chris Haupt was gouging MAC defenses, setting Widener passing records and earning Gagliardi Trophy nominations, he was catching. Not footballs, though.
Haupt, now 25, spent his first three years after high school as a baseball catcher in the minor leagues. Sure, the athletic Haupt also played basketball and football in high school, but baseball, the game he picked up as a 5-year-old, was his true passion.
Kickoff 2012 has a feature story from Andrew Lovell talking about how Haupt's journey led him to Gagliardi Trophy finalist and quarterback for a Top 25 team. It's one of more than two dozen feature stories you'll find in Kickoff, along with all the season previews, exclusive rankings and content you won't find anywhere else in D-III.
Kickoff is an online-only publication, which will be released on or about Aug. 21 in preparation for the first games the weekend of Sept. 1. It covers all 239 Division III football teams, including features listed below.
