Augustana became the first Division III football team to successfully defend its title, defeating Central for the 1984 national championship.

The Vikings (12-0) ran the ball 66 times and passed seven in controlling the ball for 32 minutes of the clock. Augustana ran its winning streak to 24 consecutive games.
