Tiger Football Team Adds 24 Recruits
Jun 23, 2007
Press Release posted by Colorado College
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Building on the momentum generated from the 2006 season and the excitement of CC's inaugural season in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, the Colorado College football team will add 23 freshmen and one sophomore when pre-season training begins in August. The incoming freshman class is CC's largest since 30 first-year players joined the program prior to the 2004 campaign.

“I'm excited about the class,” says head coach Bob Bodor, who will begin his fifth season at CC this fall. “The strength of this year's class is the diversity of positions the newcomers play. They cover a lot of critical areas on our depth chart. The number of recruits is significant because we need to be in that range every year to be competitive in the SCAC.”

The incoming freshmen hail from nine different states, with seven players originating from Colorado and six from California. The Tigers landed three players from Texas and two from Connecticut and Michigan, and one each from Florida, Oklahoma, Utah and Vermont.

“Almost a third of our class is from the state of Colorado,” Bodor says, “Our home state will always be our top priority. We've done well up and down the Front Range, getting players from small schools, large schools, and everywhere in between. High school coaches are starting to respond to the success of our program and they are beginning to seek us out. That's another tangible sign of our progress.”

The newcomers are almost evenly split between offense and defense. Five linemen, four linebackers and three defensive backs make up the 12 players who will begin their careers on the defensive side of the ball. The offensive recruits include five linemen, three quarterbacks, a pair of wide receivers and one running back. The Tigers also added one kicker.

“In the past, we've had to ask the newcomers to contribute before they were really ready,” Bodor says. “This year, they'll have a chance to come in and learn the system, but we're going to work hard to get those guys on the field. Some of them will have a chance to play immediately, which is always great.”

CC kicks off the 2007 campaign on Sept. 8 at home against long-time rival Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. The following week, Colorado College will make its SCAC debut when the Tigers play host to Sewanee, the University of the South.
