The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference named the following players as Players of the Week for week 10:
Offense: JOE THIGPEN OF BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN COLLEGE, a 6-2, 220-pound sophomore quarter back from Crestview, Fla. has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, November 8.
Thigpen was directly responsible for five of the Panthers' six touchdowns on Saturday, going 9-of-15 with 157 passing yards and two touchdowns, and rushing for 94 yards on 12 carries with three touchdowns.
Defense: ADAM HAY OF CENTRE COLLEGE, a 6-2, 220-pound senior linebacker from Cincinnati, Ohio, has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, November 8.
Hay matched his season-high for tackles with 15, including 12 solo tackles and three assisted tackles. He also recorded a tackle for a loss and broke up a pass in the win. With his performance, Hay now has 102 total tackles on the year, including 10.0 tackles for loss.
MICHAEL GALATAS OF MILLSAPS COLLEGE, a 5-9, 159-pound sophomore wide receiver/kick returner from Lacombe, La., has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, November 8.
Galatas became the first Major to return a punt for a score since 2006, taking a Martin Golobic punt late in the third quarter back 49-yards for a touchdown. The sophomore also had a 69-yard kickoff return after a safety called back on a penalty, the second time that’s happened in as many weeks (85-yard return at Trinity). On the year, Galatas is averaging 18.8 yards per punt return and 25.1 yards per kick return.
