THE COACHES
This week\'s game features two coaches who are quite familiar
with each other. Union coach John Audino is in his 14th season
with the Dutchmen. On September 24, Audino became the first
coach in Union\'s 120-year football history to post 100 career
victories. He has a career record of 107-33 and has never had a
sub-.500 season. His winning percentage stands at 76.4% and he
has now guided Union to the NCAA playoffs for the fourth
time in his career. Audino is a 1975 Notre Dame graduate. Ithaca
Coach Mike Welch is a 1973 Ithaca graduate. He enters this
week with a career mark of 97-34, for a winning percentage of
74% in his 12th year. This is the fourth time he has guided the
Bombers into the NCAA\'s. In 1976, Audino was the special
teams coach at Albany under Bob Ford, and Welch was also on
that staff, as the offensive backs coach.
NCAA RANKINGS
In this week\'s NCAA Division III statistics, Union RB Tom
Arcidiacono is ranked #4 in rushing with an average of 161.6 per
game, while WR Steve Angiletta is ranked #5 in receiving yards
per game with an average of 127.7. He is #7 in receptions per
game with 7.9. Arcidiacono is #16 in all purpose yards (164.8).
Ithaca QB Josh Felicetti is #5 in passing efficiency at 176.3. In
total offense, Union is #23 and Ithaca is #25.
ITHACA & UNION NCAA HISTORY
Union is in the NCAA tournament for the 10th time in history,
and has a record of 8-9. Ithaca is in for the 15th time, and stands
27-11. Ithaca is 3-0 vs. Union in the NCAA\'s. The Bombers
defeated the Dutchmen in the 1991 Quarterfinals, 35-23. Ithaca
won 24-17 in OT in the first round in 1986, and 13-12 in the
first round in the 1985 season.

NCAA FIRST ROUND - ITHACA AT UNION - Sat., November 19, 2005
A PERFECT REGULAR SEASON
With a 10-0 record, Union has recorded the program\'s ninth
undefeated season in history. This is also the seventh regular
season without a loss or tie. The last undefeated campaign was
in 1993. The 10 win season is the second on record, the only
other coming in the 1989 season, when Union went 10-0 and
finished 13-1 with a loss in the Stagg Bowl.
LAST WEEK VS. RENSELAER
Junior QB Anthony Marotti accounted for five touchdowns and
passed for 300 yards and RB Tom Arcidiacono rushed for 205
yards and two scores to lead Union College to a 49-42 victory
over Rensselaer November 12 in front of 4,247 at Frank Bailey
Field. Union clinched the Liberty League Championship and the
NCAA automatic bid with a perfect 10-0 record and a 7-0 mark
in the league. Union also won the 103rd meeting in this series,
New York State's oldest collegiate football rivalry, and took
home the “Dutchman Shoes Trophy,” awarded for the 56th time
in the storied rivalry.
Arcidiacono, ranked fourth in NCAA Division III in rushing,
had his fourth 200 yard game of the year. Junior WR Ryan
Twitchell caught seven passes for 160 yards and a touchdown
while junior WR Steve Angiletta had 116 yards on 11 catches
and two touchdowns.
The teams combined for 985 yards and the 91 points were the
most combined points in the series' history. RPI opened the
scoring at 8:53 of the first quarter on a 30-yard field goal by
Drew Taranto. Union took a 7-3 lead at 5:50 on a four-yard run
by Marotti. Graham Boyd caught a nine-yard pass from Jimmy
Robertson at 5:50 but Union regained the lead on a seven-yard
pass from Marotti to Angiletta with 4:19 left for a 14-10
Dutchmen lead. Jay Bernardo had a 15-yard scoring run with
seven seconds left in the first quarter and the guests had a 17-14
lead after the first stanza.
Taranto hit a 22-yard field goal at 12:23 of the second to extend
the RPI lead to 20-14. But Twitchell had an eight yard reception
from Marotti at 8:41 for a 21-20 Union lead. RPI took a 28-21
advantage at 5:53 on a four-yard run by Bernardo, for what
would turn out to be the Engineers' final lead of the day (28-21).
Arcidiacono had a two-yard scoring run at 1:17 then just 1:16
later, Marotti hit Angiletta with a five-yard touchdown pass for
a 35-28 lead by halftime.
A four-yard run by Marotti with 1:25 left in the third quarter
was the only scoring and the Dutchmen had a 42-28 lead.
Bernardo scored at 12:25 of the fourth on a one-yard run, and
Arcidiacono went over the 200 yard mark for Union with a 45-
yard rush with 3:01 left in the fourth. Eren Savalsi caught a nineyard
pass from Robertson with 1:16 left and the Engineers
trailed 49-42, but the ensuing on-side kick went out of bounds
and Union ran out the clock.
Union LB Kevin Flike led the Dutchmen with seven tackles.
KURALT, NELSON WOULD BE PROUD
Charles Kuralt and Willie Nelson would be proud of the Union
football team for the performance on the road. Union wound up a
perfect 5-0 in away games in the 2005 regular season. After
playing away from home for three of the first four games and four
of the first six this year, Union is home for the third straight week
and play at Bailey Field for the fourth time in five weeks.
