DOVER, DE — Wesley College (4-1) bounced back from a tough defeat last week to blank visiting Huntingdon College, Ala. (1-4) at Wolverine Stadium 28-0. The Wolverine defense led the way holding the Hawks to only 126 total yards on the day, including a minus 2-yards rushing. All-American defensive end, Bryan Robinson, finished the day with 5 tackles for loss and two sacks.

Starting with great field position, Wesley needed only 7 plays from their 48-yard line to get on the scoreboard on their first drive. Quarterback Jason Schatz rolled to his right then fired to reserve tight end Sean McAndrews who hauled in the offering crossing the goal line at 10:14 of the first quarter. McAndrews was starting at tight end in place of Jon Lanouette and caught two passes on the day. Kicker Collin Blugis added the extra point.

Wesley's defensive unit withstood a 9-play drive by only giving up 28-yards forcing the Hawks to punt. Robinson ended the drive with his first sack of the day on the Hawks quarterback Justin Ridgeway. The ensuing punt went for a touchback giving Wesley the ball on their own 20-yard line.

The Wolverines showcased their reenergized running game on their next drive, with running back Mike Pennewell leading the way. Pennewell rushed 8 times for 60-yards on the drive and finished it with a 14-yard scoring jaunt through the Hawks defense. Pennewell led all rushers with 149 yards on 24 carries. Blugis added his second PAT and Wesley extended their lead to 14-0 with 14:54 left in the 2nd quarter.

Huntingdon threatened late in the 2nd quarter driving down to the Wesley 4-yard line, but the 19-yard field goal attempt by Hawk kicker, Adam Brummett, was blocked by Wolverine defensive lineman Gabe Tranchetti. At half Wesley still held a 14-0 advantage.

In the third quarter, Wesley offense stumbled, but the Wolverine defense continued to dominate the Hawks forcing two punts. Wesley's offense soon found its stride late in the 3rd quarter. Schatz completed 3 of 3 passes to lead the Wolverines down the field for their third score of the day. Schatz found wide out Michael Clark behind the Hawk secondary for a 30-yard score to end the drive. Schatz finished the game with a very efficient 14 of 20 passing for 185 yards and two scores. Blugis add another extra point giving Wesley a 21-0 lead.

Wesley finished of the scoring at 9:09 of the 4th quarter as fullback Steve Lawrence slammed across the goal line for a 1-yard score. The score finished off an 11-play, 84-yard drive that took up 4:21 of the 4th quarter clock. Blugis was a perfect 4-4 and Wesley took the 28-0 lead to the final gun for the well earned victory.

Defensively for the Wolverines, linebacker Sean Matthews and Robinson led the team with 9 tackles a piece. Matthews had 2 tackles for loss compared to Robinson's 5. All told, the Wolverines sacked Ridgeway 5 times on the day and had a total of 19 tackles for loss. Wesley's defense also blocked two field goal attempts, one by Tranchetti and one by Teron Murray. Wesley also harassed the Hawks receivers physically breaking up 6 passes on the day.

Wesley plays their fifth of their first six games at home next week by hosting Frostburg State for Homecoming and their opening ACFC game schedule.
