Week Eleven Game Summaries

UW-Oshkosh 54, Minnesota-Morris 0
MINNEAPOLIS -- Scoring touchdowns on its first four possessions, the UW-Oshkosh football team cruised to a 54-0 victory over NCAA Division II University of Minnesota-Morris on Friday night at the Metrodome. The season finale featured the Titans scoring their most points since a 66-0 victory against UW-Platteville in 1919. It also was the fifth-highest point total in the 106-year history of UW-Oshkosh football.

UW-Oshkosh took control of the contest against its first-time opponent early, scoring on running back Matt Kaufman's 4-yard touchdown run just 2:53 into the contest. The Titans concluded the first quarter with a 23-0 advantage after getting a 4-yard touchdown run from running back Mike Scovronski (6:20 left), a safety following a blocked punt (4:12 left) and a 59-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Alan Beversdorf to split end Shannon King (2:33 left). UW-Oshkosh had eight first downs and 169 yards of offense in the opening period.

The Titans (3-7) continued their assault in the second quarter, scoring on a 62-yard touchdown run by Beversdorf and a 20-yard touchdown pass from Beversdorf to split end Chris Samz. UW-Oshkosh held the Cougars (0-11) without a first down and just 15 yards of offense in the second quarter.

UW-Oshkosh tallied 17 points in the second half, reaching the end zone on a 2-yard touchdown run by Scovronski in the third quarter and by a 39-yard touchdown pass from Beversdorf to tight end Justin Penio in the fourth quarter. The Titans closed the scoring with a 31-yard field goal by placekicker Davie Gaulke in the fourth quarter.

En route to recording its first shutout since the second game of the 1996 season, UW-Oshkosh totaled 432 yards of offense and 20 first downs. TheTitans gained 281 yards on the ground, with Kaufman gaining a career-best 103, Scovronski 76 and Beversdorf 62. In the air, Beversdorf completed eight of 13 passes for 151 yards and three touchdowns.

Defensively, UW-Oshkosh had its best performance of the season in handing Minnesota-Morris its 22nd consecutive setback. The Cougars were held to just four first downs and only 60 yards of offense, none of which was through the air. It was the fewest yards allowed by UW-Oshkosh since Mount Senario was held to 34 in the 1988 season opener. Linebacker Ryan Thompson led the defensive charge by recording 10 tackles, including two for a loss. Defensive back Don Ryan chipped in to help hold the University of Minnesota-Morris without a third down conversion (0-for-12) by intercepting two passes.

Montclair State 17, Rowan 13
UPPER MONTCLAIR, N.J. -- Junior quarterback Ed Collins scored on a 1-yard sneak with 2:47 to play as Montclair State captured its second consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference title with a 17-13 victory against Rowan before a boisterous crowd of 3,187 at Sprague Field.

Collins, who scored on a similar play in last year's title clinching victory, helped the Red Hawks (7-2, 6-0) win their 16th NJAC title. With the win, MSU is now headed to the playoffs for the second consecutive year. Last year, Montclair State advanced to the quarterfinals where they were knocked out by Rowan. It is the first time the Red Hawks, who have won 11 consecutive conference games, will make back-to-back appearances in the NCAA's since 1985-86.

Collins capped off an 11-play, 67-yard drive as he completed two key third-down conversions. Facing a 3rd-and-13 from the MSU 30, Collins hit Nick Serpico for a 28-yard gain to the Rowan 42. Four plays later, Montclair had 3rd-and-10 from the Rowan 32 when Collins found fullback Alejandro Mercado for a 15-yard gain. A penalty moved the Red Hawks to the five where Collins scrambled to the 1. Following a timeout, the junior then dove in from the one for the winning margin. Last year, Collins went in from a yard out with 5:17 to play as Montclair posted a 28-24 victory in Glassboro.

Rowan had one last chance as backup quarterback Tony Raccioppi raced 12 yards to bring the ball out the midfield with 2:37 left. An 8-yard completion to Scott Lipford gave the Profs a 3rd-and-2 at the MSU 42-yard line. But the drive stalled there as Racioppi's final two attempts fell incomplete. Montclair then ran out the final 1:31 to secure the win.

Montclair's Brent Grablachoff gave the Red Hawks a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Profs took the lead early in the second as Mike Warker hit Al Beverly for a 68-yard scoring strike. That's the way the game stayed until 8:30 left in the third as linebacker Ron Broking picked off a Warker pass and raced 26 yards for a touchdown and a 10-6 Montclair State advantage.

In the fourth quarter, Racioppi replaced an ineffective Warker and regained the lead for the Profs culminating the 55-yard drive with a 4-yard scoring pass to Bobby Woolfolk.

Broking had three interceptions in the game tying a Montclair State single-game record. Collins completed 18 of 36 passes for 291 yards, including six to wide receiver Adrian Zayas for 105 yards. Warker was 7-for-20 for 176 yards, but was intercepted a career-high four times. Racioppi was 10-for-16 for 121 yards. Defensive lineman Gerritt Tosh had 10 tackles and four sacks for the Profs.

Union 48, Springfield 19
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 11, 2000 --  Junior quarterback Ben Gilbert
threw for 299 yards and four touchdowns, completing 14 of 19 passes, while senior Bryan Slekes caught six passes for 132 yards and two scores as Union College (9-1) handed No. 11 Springfield (9-1) its first loss of the year, 48-19, on Benedum Field in the final regular season game for both teams.

Sophomore tailback George Beebe totaled 103 yards rushing and two touchdowns (2, 55 yards) on 13 carries as the Dutchmen compiled 488 yards of total offense, while holding the nation's top-ranked rushing offense (447.0 yards per game) and third ranked scoring offense (45.7 points per game) to 252 yards on the ground and 319 total yards.

After holding the Pride scoreless on its first two possessions, junior placekicker Andrew Ruffo capped a seven-play, 37-yard drive with a 22-yard field goal to put Union up 3-0 with 6:28 remaining in the first quarter. Slekes then scored on a 40-yard pass from Gilbert with 3:31 remaining to give Union the 10-0 advantage after the first quarter.

Senior halfback Demetrius Dunn put the Pride on the board with a 19-yard scoring run to finish a nine-play, 70-yard drive, with 14:04 remaining in the second quarter.

Union scored on six of its next seven possessions, including a 2-yard scoring run by Beebe, and a pair of Gilbert touchdown passes to Slekes (53 yards) and senior tight end Rob Krickovich (30 yards) to take a 31-6 halftime lead.  Beebe opened the second half with a 55-yard touchdown run, Ruffo kicked a 30-yard field goal, and Gilbert hit senior tight end Dan Bamford with a 23-yard scoring pass to give the Dutchmen a 48-6 lead with 1:36 remaining in the third quarter.

Junior halfback Bob Sedlor scored on a 42-yard pass from senior quarterback Kevin Cahill, and sophomore quarterback Craig Bowman scored on a 50-yard run for Springfield in the fourth quarter for the final 48-19 outcome.

Cahill finished the day with 62 yards rushing and 67 yards completing 2-of-6 passes with an interception, while senior fullback Jason Miller, who ranked second in Division III in scoring (15.1 points per game) and 15th in rushing (143.6 yards per game) was stopped for 56 yards on 16 carries and was held scoreless for the first time this season.

Springfield, who clinched an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III
Championship on Nov. 4 by winning the Freedom Football Conference
title, will find out its first-round opponent tomorrow (Nov. 12) as the NCAA will be announcing the tournament pairings at 2 p.m.  Union, while not a member of a conference that receives an automatic bid, could also receive an
invitation to the tournament after compiling one of the top records in the region.

Union once again spoiled the Pride's attempt at winning 10 games and
finishing the regular season undefeated. The Dutchmen also handed the 9-0 Pride of 1998 its first loss of the season with a 38-7 defeat.

Western Maryland 41, Johns Hopkins 7
BALTIMORE -- Junior quarterback Boo Harris rushed for one touchdown, passed for two more and the Western Maryland defense limited Johns Hopkins to just 146 yards of total offense as the Green Terror knocked off host Johns Hopkins, 41-7.  The win is the eighth straight for Western Maryland, which improves to 9-1, 7-0 in the Centennial Conference with the victory.  The Blue Jays end their season at 5-5, 4-3.

Western Maryland scored all the points it would need in the first eight minutes of the game as the Terror jumped out to a quick 17-0 lead. Freshman running back Jason Hartman capped a quick two-play, 14-yard drive with a 1-yard run just 1:26 into the game to make it 7-0.  The drive was set up when Blue Jay quarterback George Merrell was intercepted on Hopkins' first possession by Rob Wingfield, who returned the ball 34 yards to the Hopkins 14-yard line.  After Western Maryland held Hopkins on downs on its next possession, Harris scampered 26 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0 just 4:21 into the game.  A Brent Sandrock 42-yard field goal made it 17-0 just 7:40 into the game.

The Blue Jays threatened late in the second quarter after Western Maryland had extended its lead to 24-0.  Junior Zach Baylin caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Merrell with 3:34 left in the second quarter to make it 24-7.  The Blue Jays then forced a Western Maryland turnover and had the ball inside the Green Terror 10-yard line, but failed to convert on a fake field goal attempt and never seriously threatened again.

Western Maryland put the game away with a pair of big plays midway through the third quarter.  Junior Teron Powell caught an 80-yard touchdown pass from Harris and freshman French Pope returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown less than two minutes later to push the lead to 38-7.  A 41-yard field goal by Sandrock closed the scoring early in the fourth quarter.

Harris rushed for a game-high 67 yards and the one touchdown and was 4-for-14 for 125 yards, the one touchdown and two interceptions through the
air. Kendorksi added 52 yards on the ground and Powell had one reception for 80 yards to lead the receiving corps.

Baylin led the way offensively for Hopkins as he had a game-high eight receptions for 65 yards and the one touchdown.  The touchdown reception was his 12th of the season, which breaks the previous school record of 11, which he had shared with Bill Stromberg.  In addition, his eight receptions give him 68 on the season, the second-highest single-season total in school history.

Plymouth State 49, Worcester Tech 19
PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- Plymouth State erupted for 490 yards and 49 points
Saturday afternoon and captured a 49-19 Freedom Football Conference victory over Worcester Tech at Currier Field.

The triumph was the third in a row for the Panthers as they complete the season at the .500 mark, 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the FFC.  PSC avoided its first losing season since 1979 under second-year head coach Chris Rorke.  WPI completes its disappointing campaign at 2-8 and 1-5.

The balanced Panther offense ran up 245 yards on the ground and 245 yards through the air, while the special teams came through with a pair of touchdowns to spearhead the attack.

PSC running backs Jason Bordas and Russ Massahos combined for 168 yards rushing and two touchdowns.  Bordas carried 13 times for 103 yards and Massahos added 17 carries for 65 yards and a pair of scores. Sophomore Matt Simpson threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns, and junior tight end John Walters caught seven passes for a career-high 102 yards.

Junior Eric Thiboutot racked up 202 all-purpose yards in a losing effort for WPI.  He rushed for 103 yards and one touchdown, caught three passes for 48 yards, returned two punts for one yard, and brought back a pair of kickoffs for 50 yards.

"Thiboutot is a helluva back," said Rorke, "and even though we were up 21 points, I was still a little wary.  Our defense had a lot of good hits, and we were able to get five takeaways."

PSC, which led 21-0 at the half and 28-19 after three quarters, scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to put the game away.  The Panthers got their seven touchdowns from Massahos (3-yard and 7-yard runs), sophomore wideout Chris Holton on a 36-yard reception, Walters (33-yard
reception), freshman Uriah Davis on an 85-yard kickoff return, senior Andy Gale on a 60-yard pass play, and senior Jason Marcell on a 45-yard run on a fake punt.

"It's my first runback since my freshman year of high school," said Davis.  "I had one guy who was trying to contain me, and he was blocked, and I saw someone picked up the kicker and there was daylight.  I've come close a couple of times, but there always seemed to be a tackler.  Today there was no one there to tackle me."

"You can only dream of having a game like this," added Marcell, who finished with five tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception (27-yard return). "We've run that (fake punt) a few times.  I could've pitched back but I saw too much daylight.  To score a touchdown in my last game here is a great way to go out. We wanted to go out solid this year and things fell for us today."

The Panthers also got a team-high nine tackles from junior linebacker Chris Kelliher, who finished the season with a team-leading 109 stops. Junior Mike Donahue contributed eight tackles, a pass breakup, and a half sack.

WPI senior Nick Fluet rushed for 92 yards, but was knocked out with an injury in the third quarter, 19 yards short of 3,000 for his career and 32 yard short of 1,000 for the season.  Classmate Jeff Martin led WPI with nine tackles, tying the single season mark for tackles with 124 (matching Jon Pires in 1998).

"It's been a tough season for us for a number of reasons," said Rorke, "but we wanted to send the seniors out today with a win.  We ended the year healthy and playing well.  We lost a couple of heartbreaking games, but in the end we got our (injured) guys back and were playing much better at the end of the season. This is a close-knit group of guys who played their hearts out today.

Middlebury 27, Tufts 0
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- Middlebury football team (7-1) blanked Tufts 27-0 to capture a share of the NESCAC football championship with Amherst and Colby. The Panthers end the season not having allowed a touchdown in their last 26 quarters of the season, dating back to Sept. 30 at Colby. Following the game, 28-year head coach Mickey Heinecken announced his retirement.

The Panthers opened the scoring with 1:31 left in the first quarter as Bryan Sanchez scored on a 14-yard rush up the Middlebury. Tufts fumbled the ensuing kickoff, leading to a 2-yard run by Sanchez to give the Panthers a 14-0  lead. Middlebury added to the lead in the third quarter when Zac Campbell broke away with a 58-yard touchdown reception. Sanchez sealed the game early in the third quarter with his third touchdown of the day on a 23-yard scoring scamper.

Sanchez ended the day with 215 yards rushing on 38 carries with three touchdowns. He ends his career holding school records for most carries in a season (234 in '00), in a career (602 in '00), most yards rushing in a season (1,183), in a career (2,929). Scott Roberts completed seven of 12 passes for 72 yards on the day, hitting top target Devon O'Neil four times for 59 yards. Brian Holmes led Tufts with 19 carries for 80 yards, while Todd Scalia completed 14 of 30 passes for 124 yards.

Ohio Northern 68, Marietta 27
ADA, Ohio -- Jamal Robertson set Ohio Northern single-game records with 307 yards rushing, six rushing touchdowns, seven touchdowns overall and 401 all-purpose yards as the #25-ranked Polar Bears exploded for a 68-27 Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Marietta at Ada War Memorial Stadium.

Ohio Northern ends the regular season with an 8-2 record and finishes in second place in the OAC with an 8-1 mark. The Pioneers end their season 3-7 overall and 2-7 in the OAC.

Shane Franzer completed 15 of 23 passes for 283 yards and three touchdowns, giving him school records of 2,362 yards passing and 27 touchdown passes this season. Franzer also ran for 102 yards on seven carries, including a career-best 72-yard run, making him the first ONU quarterback to surpass the 1,000-yard rushing mark for a career with 1,089. Robertson won the OAC rushing record with 1,664 yards this season, edging Marietta's Kenneth Sasu by 49 yards.

Robertson ends his career as ONU's all-time career rushing leader with 4,169 yards. He also owns career records with 5,388 all-purpose yards, 56 touchdowns and 338 points. Robertson owns or shared no less than 17 ONU records.

In his last three games, Robertson has rushed for 256, 287 and 307 yards, a total of 850 yards on 96 carries, easily the best three-game stretch in ONU history.

Sasu led the Pioneers with 229 yards on 34 carries. He entered the contest leading the OAC by 29 yards over Robertson, but missed his chance to lead the league for a second consecutive season after Robertson's 307-yard effort. Shawn Taylor completed 15 of 29 passes for 172 yards and four scores for MC.

Marietta took leads of 7-0 and 14-7 on its first two possessions on passes by Taylor, sandwiched around a 60-yard run by Robertson. Franzer hit Frank VanDresser on a 5-yard TD pass and found Tony Mitchell on a 4-yard TD pass to put the Bears ahead 19-13 with 11:48 left in the first half.

Robertson scored on runs of 3, 17 and 15 yards on the Polar Bears' next three possessions to take a 40-14 advantage with 1:47 left in the half. The Pioneers pulled within 40-20 when Taylor hit Nate Long on a 28-yard TD pass just 28 seconds before intermission.

Franzer hit Jeremy Agozzino with a 38-yard TD strike one minute into the third period to make it 47-20, but the Pioneers responded with a 30-yard pass from Taylor to Todd Miller to pull within 47-27 with 7:44 left in the period.

Robertson returned the ensuing kickoff 74 yards for a score to make it 54-27, then ripped off touchdown runs of 65 and 49 yards on ONU's next two possessions to put the Polar Bears comfortably ahead 68-27 with 13:13 left in the game.

Northern rolled up 729 yards of total offense to 434 for the Pioneers, despite controlling the ball only 20:42 to 39:18 for MC. The 729 yards is 11 shy of ONU's record 740 yards against Hiram in 1997.

Widener 37, Juniata 22
HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Widener junior wide receiver Jim Jones came close to doing it all on Saturday afternoon at Juniata's Knox Stadium.  Jones led the Pioneers (9-1) to a 37-22 win against the Eagles (1-9) during the final weekend of the regular season play with 10 catches for 243 yards, including two touchdowns, four punt returns for 55 yards, three rushing attempts for 20 yards, including a touchdown and he intercepted a pass in the Widener end zone when inserted into the game for the first time this fall for defensive play.

Jones went over the 100-yard receiving mark for the seventh time this year and the 12th time in his career (both school records).  He also set a program single-season standard for receptions with 60 and he went over the 200-yard receiving mark for the third time in 2000.

In addition to the effort by Jones, junior wide receiver Mike Coleman had six snags for 130 yards for the Pioneers and caught a pair of touchdown passes.  His scoring snags broke the school record for TD receptions in a career.  He now has 29 touchdown catches.  Coleman also completed a pass for 44 yards on a fake reverse play.  Senior quarterback Mike Granato completed 12 of 24 passes for 240 yards and three scores before leaving the game in the third quarter after a blow to the head.  He was taken to J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital to be examined for what might be a concussion.

Juniata's senior wide receiver Matt Eisenberg had 11 receptions for 139 yards and two touchdowns.  He established the program standard for career scoring snags with his 17-yard TD catch in the first quarter.  Eisenberg ended his career with 38 touchdown receptions, breaking the old mark of 36 held by Mike Cottle (1985-88).

The victory gave Widener a perfect 5-0 MAC Commonwealth record for its unblemished first-place finish, while Juniata completed the conference loop with a 1-4 mark.  The Pioneers, who clinched the MAC crown and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs last week, will now await to hear on Sunday where they will be playing next Saturday in the first round of the national tournament.  Widener's perfect 9-0 record in MAC play is the program's first since 1994.  Juniata closes the year with its worst record since a 1-9 slate in 1993.

Coleman caught a 20-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, while Juniata's Eisenberg answered back with his first TD to complete the scoring in the first quarter.

Jones then hauled in a 60-yard scoring bomb from Granato at the start of the second period, before Coleman had a 49-yard touchdown catch from Granato with 3:29 to go in the first half to go up 21-7 at halftime.

Jones posted his third touchdown reception of the game with 12:54 remaining in the third quarter to cap Widener's first possession of the second half.  Eagle freshman running back Mike Leach ran in from 10 yards out to cut the blue and gold deficit in half, 28-14, with 4:36 left in the third stanza.

Jones then found paydirt for the fourth time in the game, this time on a 3-yard run to cap a five-play, 64-yard drive by Widener.

Paul Ragan had a 26-yard field goal for Widener with 2:18 left in the game, before Eisenberg hauled in a 17-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Jonathan Collins with 0:43 to go.  It was the first career touchdown pass for the sophomore signal-caller who entered the game after junior quarterback Jamie Campbell left with an injury in the fourth period.  Campbell completed 29 of 59 passes for 341 yards.  His 29 completions tied his own school record set against Moravian earlier this fall.  Collins was good on seven of eight tosses for 92 yards.

Defensively, Widener produced 14 quarterback sacks on the day, while Anthony O'Neill and Ryan Killian each having two.  T.J. Hess led the Pioneers with eight tackles, while senior linebacker Ed Pfursich paced Juniata with 15 stops, including five for lost yardage.

Linfield 28, Willamette 7
McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Scott Cannon tied a school record with four field goals, helping Linfield beat Northwest Conference rival Willamette 28-7 Saturday afternoon at Maxwell Field.

The No. 12 Wildcats (9-0, 5-0 NWC) put the finishing touches on their first undefeated regular season since 1992 and first league title since 1994. Linfield will hear Sunday who their first-round opponent will be in next week's NCAA Division III playoffs.

Three first-half field goals by Cannon and a safety staked the Wildcats to an 11-7 lead at intermission. After a scoreless first quarter, the Wildcats got on the scoreboard at 11:46 of the second period on Cannon's 29-yard field goal, capping a 9-play, 54-yard drive. Five minutes later, the Wildcats' Ray Lions blocked a Kyle Hughes punt in the end zone for a Linfield safety.

Linfield drove to the Willamette 1, but Curt Musser fumbled the snap from center and WU's Matt Benjamin recovered the ball and returned it to the 10. On the next play, Andy Miguel sprinted 90 yards for the go-ahead score with 2:29 left in the quarter.

Willamette's lead was brief. The Wildcats got the ball back and marched to the Willamette 8 where Cannon booted a 24-yard field goal to put Linfield back up, 8-7. A fumble on the ensuing kickoff gave Linfield the ball at the WU 20. Cannon booted his third field goal from 24 yards with five seconds to play in the half.

In the third quarter, linebacker Russ Hayden stripped the Bearcats' Andrew Ecklund of the ball and ran 10 yards untouched into the end zone for an 18-7 Wildcat lead.

Cannon's fourth field goal from 34 yards away put Linfield up 21-7, then Curt Musser hit tight end Marcus Ward for a 6-yard TD pass with four minutes left.

Linfield's John Nosler caught 10 passes in the game to break his own school record with 59 catches in a single season. Nosler also broke Nick Forsey's career receptions mark. Nosler's 138 career catches moved ahead of Forsey, who set the record last season with 135.

Linfield outgained Willamette 409-215, including a 217-6 advantage passing. Musser completed 27 of 45 passes with two interceptions and one touchdown.  David Russell rushed 18 times for 100 yards for the Wildcats. Alex Rix led Linfield defensively with 12 tackles while linebacker Hans Evenson had 11.

Willamette was led by Miguel's 152 yards on 15 carries. Trevor Struble made 11 tackles, including one for loss.

Pacific Lutheran 40, Puget Sound 16
TACOMA, Wash. -- The 75th football game between Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran was a battle for the first-half as the underdog Loggers took a 16-14 lead to the locker room. However, the Lutes responded in a big way in the second half riding the wave of five Puget Sound turnovers including three interceptions by sophomore Devin Pierce on the way to a 40-16 victory.

The Loggers started the day scoring on their first three possessions including taking the opening drive 76 yards on 12 plays as Chad Mahoe took it in from the 1-yard line. Pacific Lutheran answered immediately with a nine-play, 72-yard drive capped by a 1-yard Aaron Binger rush. The Loggers took the ball 66 yards on 12 plays as Craig Knapp hit John Whitehead from 8 yards out for a 13-6 advantage. The Logger defense stopped the Lutes on a failed fourth down conversion and Michael Cassaw booted a 31 yard fieldgoal after Puget Sound held the ball for 11 plays driving 61 yards.

Before intermission PLU quarterback Chad Johnson rushed 6 yards for a touchdown with 12:50 to go in the 2nd quarter and the Lutes were successful on the two-point conversion. Both teams slowed the offensive punch to finish the first half with the Loggers holding a slim 16-14 advantage.

The second half was a different story as a Logger fumble led to a Lute score at 7:33 of the third quarter as Johnson hit Jess Nelson from 6 yards out . Devin Pierce went to work for the Lutes snagging two interceptions both returned for Lute touchdowns in the 4th quarter. Pierce dashed 21 yards on his first pick and 48 on the second to put the game away for the defending national champion Lutes. Pierce added one final interception for the trifecta. PLU was not done as Johnson tossed a 45 yard scoring pass to Shipley Ennis with 2:32 remaining in the game for the final 40-16 victory.

The Lutes provided for 484 yards in total offense as Johnson hit on 20-24 for 288 yards and added 48 rushing yards. Binger rushed for 79 yards on 8 carries for the Lutes.

Logger quarterback Craig Knapp broke the University of Puget Sound career passing yardage record early in the first quarter on a 24-yard pass play to John Whitehead. Knapp ended his career with 4,915 passing yards breaking the record of 4,620 held by Chris Schlect (92-95). On the day Knapp was 16-33 for 175 yards with four interceptions. Running back Chad Mahoe was having a strong day with 19 carries for 80 yards before an ankle injury took him out with 6:12 to go in the second quarter.

The Lutes retain the Totem Trophy awarded to the game winner an honor they have held for the past 13 years. The last time the Loggers won the contest was in 1987.

The Loggers conclude the year with their first winning season since 1987 at 5-4 overall and 2-3 in Northwest Conference play. The Lutes end the regular season at 8-1 and 4-1 in the conference.
