Saint Vincent junior tabbed PAC Defensive Player of the Week
Saint Vincent College junior Anthony Johnson has become the
first player in school history to be honored by the Presidents'
Athletic Conference as Defensive Player of the Week.
Johnson, a junior middle linebacker from Fort Pierce, FL, turned in a monster performance for the Bearcats in their narrow opening day loss to Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon. He established a new school record with 14 tackles, including 2.0 for losses, while also intercepting a pass to set up Saint Vincent's first touchdown of the day in the third quarter.
The 14 tackles bested Johnson's previous school record of 13, set last season against Grove City College. He has now recorded at least 10 tackles in nine of his 13 games in a Saint Vincent uniform.
Saint Vincent is in its first year as an official member of NCAA Division-III after successfully completing a four-year provisional membership when the school moved from the NAIA in 2006.
The Bearcats (0-1) will return to action this Saturday afternoon, traveling to suburban New York City to take on Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham in a 1pm non-conference tilt.
