Phil Tsopanides of Western New England College named NEFC Defensive Player-of-the-Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Western New England College sophomore free safety Phil Tsopanides (Fairfield, CT) was selected the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Defensive Player-of-the-Week on Sunday (Oct. 24).

This is the second time this season that he has gained the award.

Tsopanides intercepted a pass in the end zone on the final play of the game and returned it 36 yards to help preserve the Golden Bears' 14-6 victory over host Plymouth State in a battle of unbeaten Boyd Division opponents. He also compiled a team high 10 tackles in the game and had one pass breakup.

Tsopanides is a Criminal Justice major.

This was Western New England College's first ever win over Plymouth State in 13 meetings. The Golden Bears are now 7-1 and a perfect 5-0 in division play.
