EUREKA, Ill. – As part of a new merchandising agreement with Nike, the Eureka College football team unveiled new home uniforms on Tuesday. For the first time in program history, the Red Devils will wear black home uniforms. The football squad will be the first Eureka team to wear Nike uniforms as part of the department's new merchandising agreement.
Third-year head coach Kurt Barth and the Eureka players worked with Nike last spring to develop the Red Devils' custom design. The home black uniforms feature maroon numbers with vegas gold trim on the front and back of the jersey. Numbers have been added to the shoulders of the away white jerseys for 2011.
The football student-athletes raised funds through a Lift-a-thon in March and the recruitment of several new members for Eureka's Red Devil Nation Touchdown Club to purchase the new uniforms. The uniforms were purchased through Bourbonnais, Ill.-based Salkeld Sports.
"This is just another improvement for the athletic department that will allow our student-athletes to feel a sense of pride about putting on the uniform and representing Eureka College," Eureka Director of Athletics Paul Bryant said. "We are very excited to move forward with Nike as our new partner."
The Red Devils will begin practice on Aug. 12 in preparation for the program's 108th season. Eureka will visit 2010 NCAA Playoff qualifier Benedictine in the season opener on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, Ill.
