Illinois College suffered its first defeat of the season on Saturday at the hands of Alex Tanney and Monmouth College. The Fighting Scots beat the Blueboys 55-14 as Tanney threw for over 300 yards and five touchdowns.
Mike Blodgett caught 13 passes for 132 yards for Monmouth and was one of five different Fighting Scots to haul in a TD pass. The Monmouth defense caused problems for the Blueboys offense as well, intercepting five Michael Bates passes. Bates threw for 280 yards and ran for a touchdown. Matt Williamson scored the Blueboys' only other TD on an 8-yard run. Mitch Brasher kicked both extra points for IC.
The Blueboys fell to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the Midwest Conference with the loss. IC travels to Lawrence University next Saturday.
