Fulton, Mo. – Senior Zain Gower (Warrensburg, Mo./Warrensburg) rushed for 202 yards and two scores in leading Westminster College to a 37-6 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference football victory over MacMurray College Saturday before a Homecoming/Family Weekend crowd.
Gower carried the football three consecutive times for 91 yards and a touchdown on Westminster's first possession to set the tone for the afternoon. The Blue Jays (6-2, 5-2 UMAC) went on to compile 413 yards of offense with 284 yards coming on the ground in keeping MacMurray winless at 0-7 overall and 0-6 in UMAC play. Junior Chris Starkey (Cedar Hill, Mo./Vianney) finished with 43 yards and one touchdown on the ground, and senior Carl Givens (Chesterfield, Mo./Chaminade) finished with five receptions for 69 yards and two touchdowns. Givens received touchdown passes from junior quarterback Kurt Gould (Fulton, Mo./Camdenton) and sophomore quarterback Scott Rodgers (Centralia, Mo./Centralia).
Westminster, which evened the all-time series at 5-5 and has won four games in a row over MacMurray, held the Highlanders to just 91 total yards and minus 59 yards rushing. Junior Gus Lyles (St. Louis, Mo./Webster Groves) recorded nine tackles, a sack and three tackles for loss. Junior Rodney Lyles (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) finished with eight tackles, a pair of sacks and three tackles for loss.
