DePauw Snaps Streak with 34-10 Win at Ohio Wesleyan

More news about: DePauw

DePauw scored 34 unanswered points and snapped its four-game losing streak with a 34-10 win at Ohio Wesleyan. The Tigers improved to 2-4 on the season, while the Battling Bishops dropped to 1-6.

DePauw turned the ball over on two of its first three possessions and Ohio Wesleyan capitalized on both. Miles MacKenzie's 23-yard field goal came after Chris Wilson's interception and Kevin Herman's 1-yard run followed  James Huddleston's fumble recovery.

The Tigers reached the scoreboard early in the second after Eric Malm's 53-yard punt pinned the hosts at their own 2-yard line. Cody Crook tackled Kevin Mulumba in the end zone on the Battling Bishops' first play from scrimmage resulting in a safety and trimming the margin to 10-2 with 10:20 left in the half.

After the ensuing free kick, the Tigers started on their own 36 and drove 64 yards in 13 plays with Drew Seaman (pictured) tossing a 15-yard scoring pass to Bobby Coburn to cut the lead to 10-9 with 4:53 left in the half.

Michael Fultz's third-down sack on the Bishops' next possession pushed OWU back to its own nine. Following a short punt and return, DePauw need just three plays to cover 33 yards as Seaman tossed a 31-yard pass to Coburn. Seaman's two-point conversion pass to D.J. Steward gave DePauw a 17-10 lead with 2:07 remaining in the second.

That lead reached 24-10 early in the third as DePauw linebacker Matt Johnson intercepted Ohio Wesleyan's Mason Espinosa on the Bishops' third play from scrimmage and returned the pick 36 yards for a score with 14:06 remaining in the third.

Later in the third, Seaman teamed with Steward for a 12-yard score with 5:59 left to push the lead to 31-10.

Malm rounded out the game's scoring with 9:16 left in the fourth when he booted a 33-yard field goal.

Seaman, a freshman making his first collegiate start, completed 17-of-27 passes for 166 yards with three touchdowns. Steward led the way with four catches for 34 yards, while Anthony Meek caught three. In all, nine different Tigers caught passes in the win. Nikko Sansone rushed for 62 yards on 11 carries.

The Bishops' Espinosa completed 13-of-32 for 96 yards, but was picked off twice. Scott Jenkins and Herman each caught four.

DePauw totaled 296 yards of offense to the Bishops' 122 as the Tigers finished with a 19-10 edge in first downs.

Jack Quinn paced DePauw's defense with seven tackles, while Graham Wilkerson had six. Wilkerson, Fultz and Indi Lavarius each had one sack and the Tigers totaled 6.0 tackles for loss. Johnson and Robby Schuler each intercepted one pass.

Tyler Sheetz paced Ohio Wesleyan with 15 tackles and Huddleston added 12. The Bishops sacked Seaman six times with Huddleston finishing with three and an additional 2.0 tackles for loss. In all, Ohio Wesleyan totaled 12.0 tackles for losses totaling 51 yards.
