WASHINGTON - Riding high after an exciting 28-24 come-from-behind win over Emory & Henry last week, CUA heads to Lexington, Virginia on Friday evening for a showdown with Washington & Lee. The Cardinals outscored the Wasps 14-3 in the fourth quarter, capped by a one-yard touchdown by Mike Pitsenberger with 21 seconds to play to earn their first ODAC victory of the season.
The Generals meanwhile racked up over 600 yards of offense en route to a 52-42 win over Bridgewater at home to remain unbeaten within the ODAC.
CUA and Washington & Lee are meeting for the 16th time this weekend with the Generals leading the all-time series 12-3. The Cardinals last win came in 2008 when they earned a 48-29 victory, but Washington & Lee has won two straight since then and seven of the last eight.
The Cardinals defense had one of its best performances of the season last weekend in the second half vs. Emory & Henry, limiting the Wasps to three points and 155 total yards. In the second half, E&H's offensive drives ended with four punts, a made field goal, a blocked field goal, a fumble and an incompletion on the final play of the game.
Junior Greg Cordivari threw a school record 64 passes vs. Emory & Henry, completing 46 of them, also a school record. The junior finished with his second 400-yard game of 2011 with 401.
Despite playing without its top wide receiver, Alonzo Cooke, last week, CUA's offense was in high gear, with Andrew Ouellette(12) and Wes Stringfield (10) hauling in double digit receptions, and Ouellette and Tanner Keefe sharing the team lead in yards with 111 apiece.
CUA is 5-2 in night games under Head Coach Dave Dunn, including 2-1 this season.
The Cardinals and Generals will kick-off their game at 7 p.m. on Friday. Washington & Lee will have live video and stats of the contest.
