Blue Jays Move to 7-2 With Dome Day Victory

Minneapolis, Minn. - Westminster College rolled up 362 yards of offense and improved to 7-2 overall and 6-2 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play with a 30-13 victory over Crown College Saturday in the Metrodome.

Senior running back Zain Gower (Warrensburg, Mo./Warrensburg) rushed for 147 yards and two scores, and senior Carl Givens (Chesterfield, Mo./Chaminade) caught 10 passes for 109 yards and a score and rushed 22 yards for another score. Junior Kurt Gould (Fulton, Mo./Camdenton) and sophomore Scott Rodgers (Centralia, Mo./Centralia) combined to complete 17 of 26 passes for 169 yards.

While the Westminster offense rushed 45 times and won time of possession 35:11 to 24:49, the Blue Jay defense limited winless Crown (0-8, 0-7 UMAC) to 42 years rushing and 237 yards total while forcing three turnovers. Junior DeMarco Moorehead (Hazelwood, Mo./Vianney) recorded a team-high 6.5 tackles for a defense which recorded five tackles for loss. Senior Kelvin Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Gateway Tech) recorded his 14th career interception.

Record Watch: Westminster is now 5-4 in the Metrodome and has won three Dome Day games in a row…the Blue Jays are now 3-0 all-time against Crown with the win…and with the win Westminster has won at least seven games in a season seven times.
