DEFIANCE, Ohio -
Defiance will take time to honor its 12-man senior class on Saturday, prior to taking the Justin F. Coressel Stadium field for the final time in 2011. The 87th meeting between DC and Bluffton will have an impact on the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings, with the winner moving into a tie for third and the loser likely dropping to sixth place in the nine-team league.

SCOUTING DEFIANCE - The Yellow Jackets have struggled at home this season, notching just one victory in five attempts and scoring only 57 total points in those five contests. DC's lone home victory so far this season, came via a 26-10 triumph against Earlham on October 15.

SCOUTING BLUFFTON - The Beavers have gone 1-3 on the road in 2011 and have played poorly on the defensive side of the ball on enemy turf. In those four road games, Bluffton has allowed 34.5 points per game and has yet to hold an opponent under 25 points.

LAST MEETING - Defiance saw a valiant comeback effort in the fourth quarter fall short at Bluffton one year ago in a 21-16 loss. DC rallied with 16-straight points, after falling down, 21-0, in the second quarter. The Jackets nearly completed the come-from-behind effort with a 13-yard pass into the end zone with 1:11 left in the game, but the fourth-down attempt sailed long and sealed the upset victory for the Beavers. Defiance outgained Bluffton, 395-153, in the loss but was done in by five turnovers.

SERIES HISTORY - Defiance owns a 44-40-2 all-time clip against its rival Bluffton on the gridiron. The Jackets have won two of the last three meetings, including a 35-0 blasting of BU in the last game between the two rivals on DC's home field.

LAST TIME OUT - Defiance had its four-game win streak snapped on Saturday, November, 5, with a 32-6 home setback against Manchester. The Spartans built a 25-0 cushion, before a 14-yard touchdown run by Rick Powell got DC on the board midway through the fourth quarter.

AROUND THE HCAC - With Franklin having wrapped up the league crown one week ago, the final four conference rivalry clashes on the 2011 HCAC slate are for pride only.

ROAD WARRIORS - Defiance concluded its 2011 road schedule with the 21-18 win at Rose-Hulman on October 29. The Jackets went 3-1 in four road tests this season, with Blaine McGowan leading the charge with 36 total tackles in those four contests.
