(Baltimore, Md.) – The Dickinson College football team suffered a 47-6 loss at #15-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Friday night. The Centennial Conference favorite saw the return of starting quarterback Hewitt Tomlin and an explosive night on the offensive side of the football.

The Blue Jays tallied 632 yards of offense behind 390 yards of passing by Tomlin. Daniel Wodicka caught 11 passes for 202 yards on the night while Same Wernick and Scott Cremens combined for 145 yards on 11 catches and two touchdowns.

The Devils came out strong and played even with the Blue Jays throughout the first quarter, despite falling behind, 10-0. Senior David London (Chevy Chase, Md./Maret School) put the Devils on the board with a 20 yard field-goal to start the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 10-3. Hopkins would answer, however, adding a pair of touchdowns to take a 24-3 lead into halftime.

The second half began with a pair of punts and a turnover for each team as Hopkins recovered a fumble and first-year Mitch Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) picked-off Tomlin for the Red Devils. The Blue Jays would then find the end zone on their next possession, stretching the lead to 30-3, with 7:51 remaining in the third period.

The Devils found themselves in a 4th-and-18 situation late in the third, and despite the score, were forced to kick. London answered the call with a career-long 47 yard field-goal, putting the final points on the board for Dickinson at the 4:25 mark.

Hopkins continued to roll, connecting on a 44 yard strike from Tomlin to Wernick to stretch the lead to 37-6 at the end of the third quarter. Tomlin would run one in from two yards out on his last drive, and Neil Vranis split the uprights from 28 yards out for the final of 47-6.

The Blue Jays improve to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the Centennial Conference. Tomlin finished the day 25-of-38 for 390 yards and two passing touchdowns. Jonathan Rigaud led all rushers with 85 yards on 15 carries.

Senior Mike Shimkin (New Hope, Pa./Princeton Day School) led the Devils with 80 yards rushing on 12 carries. First-year quarterback Cole Ahnell (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) completed 10-of-18 passes for 72 yards.

Senior Scott Sullivan (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) led the defense with 13 tackles and an interception on the night. Sophomore Michael Miller (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace) added 10 stops while Ray Durkin (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and Julian Rosen (Brecksville, Ohio/University School) each made eight tackles.

The Red Devils slip to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference. They return home to face McDaniel College on Friday night at 7:00 pm.
