More news about: Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio—Heidelberg University sophomore two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference running back Germany Woods (Cleveland/Lakewood St. Edward) was named to the D3Football.com All-North Region first team and fifth-year head coach Mike Hallett was named North Region coach of the year, announced Monday by D3Football.com.

For Woods, his selection comes following a record-breaking season in which he was selected to the All-OAC first-team.

Hallett was also tabbed be his peers as the OAC coach of the year for the second time and is also the 2011 OhioCollegeFootball.com Division III coach of the year. Hallett, who was the North Region coach of the year in 2007 following his first season at Heidelberg, is the fourth OAC head coach since 2005 to win the award.

Woods, who was a first-team All-OAC pick this season, led the OAC during the regular season and set the school single-season record with 1,421 rushing yards yards—breaking the previous record by 90 yards in 68 less carries—and scored 11 touchdowns. He had his best game against Marietta College (Oct. 22) when he rushed a career-high 34 times for a season-high 226 yards and two scores. He also rushed for a season-high three TDs in a season-ending win against Ohio Northern University (Nov. 12).

Woods went over the century mark in rushing in eight of 10 games this season and has accomplished the feat in 12 of his past 14 contests dating back to 2010. In 20 career games, Woods has totaled 2,455 yards in 397 attempts, scored 21 TDs and averages 122.8 yards per game.

Hallett, who took over a program that went 15-85 in the 10 years prior to his arrival, including a 1-39 stretch from 2003-06, led the Berg to an 8-2 record in 2011—its best mark since 1993—and a tie for second place in the league standings. The Student Princes' 7-2 OAC record matched that of the 1993 team as well.

Hallett's recruiting class of 2008—his second to go through four years in the program—posted a four-year mark of 21-19, besting his 2007 class by four games.

In 2011, the Student Princes ranked among the top three in the OAC in 11 statistical categories and led the league in five areas, including rushing offense, sacks allowed and kickoff returns.

Hallett, who was also named OAC coach of the year in 2007, is 25-25 in five seasons at Heidelberg and 40-40 in eight seasons as a head coach.
