Blades planned and coordinated "Touchdown and Tackles for Happiness House." The annual fundraiser began in 2010 and with the help of his teammates, Blades has raised more than $5,000 for Happiness House through pledges from local businesses and fans for every tackle and touchdown Hobart recorded during a selected game each season.
Happiness House, which offers an array of educational, therapeutic, recreational and family support programs, is noted for its excellent school for children with physical and learning disabilities. It also provide services for adults and children with and without disabilities. Happiness House touches the lives of over 1,000 families in the Finger Lakes region each year.
In addition to the fundraiser, Blades and his teammates have visited Happiness House throughout the academic year to assist teachers and interact with students.
Blades will share the spotlight at the sold-out gala with philanthropist Tom Golisano, who will be recognized with The Humanitarian Award, and Roy Beecher, who will be recognized as the Outstanding Board Member of the Year.
On the field, Blades appeared in 23 games during his career. He helped Hobart compile a 27-11 record over the past four seasons, including two Liberty League Championships and two NCAA playoff appearances. The Statesmen were 7-2 overall in 2010, capturing the league title and a spot in the NCAA playoffs.
Blades is a three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection. He also earned a spot on the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District first team.
