Spartan Football Announces First Wave of 2012 Recruiting Class

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Case Western Reserve University Head Football Coach Greg Debeljak has announced the first wave of the Spartans' 2012 recruiting class. The 21 incoming players represent 10 different states from around the nation.

"Not only is this one of the largest classes we have had commit at this early of a date, it is also one of the most talented," said Debeljak. "We look forward to finishing strong and having one of our best recruiting classes in my time at Case."

The Spartans (9-1 in 2011) have won four of the past five University Athletic Association Championships with three-consecutive NCAA Playoff appearances from 2007 to 2009. Over the last five seasons, the Spartans boast an overall record of 48-6.

Earned two varsity letters in football as well as three in soccer, one in track and one in tennis at Fort Hill High School…named 2011 Maryland Small School All-State First Team as a punter…also selected as an all-area kicker and punter as a senior…Area Co-Defensive Player of the Year for soccer in 2011…recipient of the Fort Hill High School AP Language, AP Calculus, AP Physics and AP Statistics Awards…named Cumberland Times-News Featured Student-Athlete of the Month...son of George and Karen Brown.

Alex Carson (Freeport, Pa.) – Defensive End
Earned three varsity letters in both football and basketball at Freeport High School…named first-team All-Allegheny Conference (AA) – WPIAL as both a tight end and a defensive end as a senior…2011 Allegheny Conference Scholar Athlete…Pennsylvania Football News All-Academic Gold Team member for three-consecutive seasons (2009-11)…member of the National Honor Society…brother of fellow incoming freshman Alex Carson…son of Mark and Melissa Carson.
