WASHINGTON – With only two weeks remaining before its season opener, the CUA football team continues its work in preseason camp.  The Cardinals held their first double session practice on Thursday and will be right back at it on Friday with a single practice in the evening.

Head Coach Dave Dunn, who directed the Cardinal offense to a No. 4 national ranking in passing in 2011, returns 18 starters this season, including all 11 on offense.  He likes the look of his veteran-laden club thus far in camp.

"We're making pretty good progress.  We have a veteran team and those guys have picked up right where they left off in the spring," explained the seventh year head coach.

He went on to say, "We have a good, young group coming in too, so they're learning day-by-day, getting better.  Our big thing is trying to stay healthy and avoid the injury bug."

CUA reported to camp on Friday, August 10 and after getting acclimated to things, the team went through testing and its first practice on Saturday.  Since that time, the Cardinals have been shuffled through numerous meetings with campus constituents, while diving into their playbooks.

Senior wide receiver Jason Howard gave his thoughts on what has been a tough camp thus far.  "So far it's been pretty taxing on our bodies, of course it is football camp, but all-in-all it's been really good and it's probably the best camp I've seen since I've been here."

The 2012 season will begin on Friday, August 31 when CUA plays host to McDaniel inside of Cardinal Stadium.  Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
