More news about: Illinois College

Cecil Brimmage ran for an Illinois College single-game record 341 yards as the Illinois College football team ran away with a 51-28 win over visiting Hanover College.

Brimmage broke Phil Pohlman's 29-year-old record of 302 yards, set in 1983. Brimmage accomplished the feat on 28 carries, while scoring three touchdowns.

"It was a good start to a long season. I was pleased with some of what I saw, but we still have a lot of improving to do," said Illinois College head football coach Garrett Campbell. "We wanted to see if Cecil could be a feature back and he definitely passed today's test."

Michael Bates threw for 167 yards on 16-of-32 accuracy, including a 6-yard touchdown pass to Josh Gentile, while adding a rushing touchdown in the first quarter. Chase Davis ran for 29 yards and two touchdowns to support the IC ground game.

Carter Cox made 11 tackles to lead the Blueboy defense. Michael Ray had six tackles and two forced fumbles and Tim Denney had a 60-yard interception return. Kurt Frischman and Demetrious Baylis each tallied a quarterback sack.

Illinois College is now 1-0 heading into next weekend's Midwest Conference opener at Grinnell College.
