ROYAL OAK, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Trine outside linebacker Caleb Nitz its Defensive Play of the Week and Trine cornerback/kick returner Myron Puryear its Special Teams Player of the Week in football for games played through September 1.
Nitz, a junior from Baroda, Michigan (Stevensville Lakeshore), led the Trine defense with 12 tackles, six of them solo stops, and had 1.5 tackles for loss in the Thunder's 24-14 victory over Manchester, Ind. Nitz is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Puryear, a senior from Canto, Michigan (Plymouth), broke a 7-7 tie with a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in Trine's victory over Manchester. Puryear also made seven tackles from his secondary position. Puryear is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time in his career.
