Albion College running back Darrin Williams rushed for a career-high 249 yards and a touchdown in the Britons' 17-14 victory over Kalamazoo College and he was rewarded by being named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Offensive Player of the Week.
The senior from Detroit who prepped at Renaissance High School used his power to shake off a Kalamazoo linebacker and then he used his speed to break away for a 56-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter. Williams, who averaged 6.6 yards per carry in the game, added a 54-yard run in the third quarter and big gains of 14, 14, and 17 yards in the fourth.
Albion Coach Craig Rundle said Williams, a transfer from the University of Cincinnati, will continue to improve as he gets more carries.
"Darrin is just now getting used to being in our offense," Albion Coach Craig Rundle said. "The more carries he gets the better he's going to be."
Albion (4-2 overall, 1-1 MIAA) plays the first of two consecutive road game this week when it travels to Alma College. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Bahlke Field.
