Lobos Hold Off TLU's Late Rally, Win 70-65

The Lobos set the tone in the first quarter shutting out TLU 28-0. Carson would score three of Sul Ross's four touchdowns in the quarter. He had run of 70 yards on the second play of the game that put Sul Ross on the board and ahead 7-0 with 14:33 on the clock. A.J. Springer would then connect with Carson for a 13-yard score with 12:58 remaining. Springer then scored on a 3-yard run that put Sul Ross up 21-0 with 7:47 left in the quarter. Later in the quarter, Springer found Carson again on a 83-yard strike with 0:25 left on the clock that moved the Lobos ahead 28-0.

In the second quarter, the Bulldogs would and Lobos would trade points. TLU would score in the opening minutes of quarter to get on the board and make it 28-7 with 12:44 left in the half. Sul Ross answered right back as Carson scored on a 1-yard run that improved the Lobos' lead to 35-7 with 11:23 on the clock. The Bulldogs would come right back and score to cut the lead to 35-14 with 9:51 to play. Carson would have his second score of the quarter after a 53-yard run that put Sul Ross ahead 42-14 with 3:18 remaining. TLU's Allen Cain would later kick a 34-yard field goal as time expired that would end the half with Sul Ross leading 42-17.

Texas Lutheran would start off the the third quarter scoring on their first drive to trail 42-24 with 11:21 left to play in the quarter. Sul Ross did not let up as they scored on their next three drives. Carson would score twice on runs of 41 yards and 27 yards. Alex Lovan would then score on a 14-yard run that gave the Lobos a 63-24 lead with 4:30 on the clock.

Sul Ross would be held scoreless for almost the next quarter as the Bulldogs' defense forced the Lobos to punt three times and recovered a fumble. TLU's offense scored on each of their next five drives, cutting the marging to 63-58 with 4:40 left in the game. On Sul Ross's ensuing drive, Carson would provide the Lobos some breathing room with a 63-yard run that put them ahead 70-58 with 3:41 remaining. TLU would score later with just 0:12 left in the game to trail 70-65. Sul Ross would then recover the onside kick and run out the clock to prevail with a 70-65 victory.

Carson led the Lobos' running attack with 319 yards on 22 carries and 6 touchdowns. Springer finished with 64 yards and a touchdown while Alex Lovan had 16 yards and a touchdown.

Springer had his fourth game of the season without an interception as he went 20 of 29 for 277 yards and two touchdowns. He is now tied for the school record for most touchdown passes in a season with 24.

Carson recorded three receptions for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Lee Carothers finished with 7 receptions for 75 yards. Calvon Henderson had 6 catches for 63 yards and Cordrick Mobley had 5 catches for 42 yards.

Defensively, the Lobos recorded 5 sacks for 28 yards and forced three turnovers. Jural Hickman and Chase Moody each had an interception. Terrance Young led the team with 9 tackles.

The Lobos are now 3-3 (2-1 ASC) on the season and will host Louisiana College on October 20th in Alpine at Jackson Field at 1pm.
