Bridgewater Finishes Season with 42-14 Triumph at Catholic

More news about: Bridgewater

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In the season finale at Catholic, the Bridgewater Eagles rolled up 42 points while the defense forced a season-high six turnovers as the Eagles football team steamrolled past Catholic by a 42-14 tally at Cardinal Stadium in Washington, D.C.

Bridgewater forced its first turnover of the day on Catholic's first drive when Darrick Goreintercepted a Greg Cordivari pass and returned it to the end zone. The interception return for a score was called back due to an inadvertent whistle, but the Eagles opened their first drive with solid field position near midfield.

Quarterback Willie Logan went to the air on the first series of the game and connected with Cord Keating from 31 yards out on the fifth play of the opening offensive series for the Eagles to put Bridgewater up 7-0 with 10:59 to play in the first quarter.

The Bridgewater defense forced a Catholic three-and-out before the Eagles added to their lead on their next offensive series.

Logan connected with Jayme Perry on a key third down conversion to move Bridgewater into Catholic territory. Five plays later, Logan punched the ball in on a keeper from the one-yard line to extend the Bridgewater lead to 14-0 with six and change to play in the first stanza.

Bridgewater's defense was again stellar on the next Catholic possession, coming up with a key turnover. Catholic marched into Bridgewater territory as the Cardinals looked to trim the Bridgewater lead before Cordivari was intercepted for the second time of the day, this time byDaniel Brent to give the Eagles the ball back late in the first.

The Eagles turned the ball over when Jordan Hartman fumbled the ball on the next offensive series, but it was again the defense getting the ball right back on the next play when Anthony Moton, II intercepted Tucker Hubbell on a reverse pass to get the ball back in the hands of the Eagles with 59 ticks to play in the first.

After an offensive exchange from both teams, in which the Eagles forced a Catholic turnover on the latter Cardinals possession, Bridgewater was able to build its lead to 21 midway through the second.

Bridgewater turned to a heavy dose of Jacob Wright on the ground as the sophomore carried the ball four times for 27 yards before bolting into the endzone from the one to build the Bridgewater lead to 21-0 which is how it would remain at the intermission.

Defensively, the Eagles limited Catholic to less than 100 yards of total offense in the first half and forced five turnovers.

Bridgewater received the opening kick of the second half and wasted little time adding to its lead.

Logan connected with Cord Keating on a 13-yard pitch and catch to get Bridgewater into Catholic territory before hitting Perry on a four-yard touchdown pass to push the advantage to 28-0.

Catholic finally got on the scoreboard on their next offensive series. Cordivari went 4-for-6 through the air to get Catholic into Bridgewater territory before five straight runs from Mike Pitsenberger resulted in a Catholic touchdown run from the one to cut the Bridgewater lead to 28-7 with six and change to play in the third.

After a Bridgewater three-and-out, the Eagles picked Cordivari off for the fourth time on the day when Lucas Elliott stepped in front of a pass to give Bridgewater the ball back.

Bridgewater added to its lead in the fourth quarter. Logan again hit Perry, this time on a 21-yard pattern to get the Eagles inside the Catholic 10 before fullback Nick Wimer forced his way in from the six to extend the Bridgewater advantage to 35-7.

Catholic scored with two and change to play when Mike McCarthy bolted in from the two to cap off a nine-play, 74-yard Catholic scoring drive.

The Eagles rounded out the scoring when senior Carlos Gonzalez hit Tyler Baum for a 36-yard strike to set up a Hartman touchdown run from the three to finalize the scoring at a 42-14 tally.

Logan was again stellar for the Eagles on the ground, bolting for a game-high 97 yards on 16 carries.

Through the air, Logan was stellar as well. The junior finished the day 17-of-22 for 245 yards and two scores.

Keating and Perry paced the Eagles receivers with 79 and 78 yards, respectively. Both players hauled in a touchdown pass in the win.

Junior Andrew Palmer paced the way for the Eagles with a game-high 11 tackles, while Brent chipped in 10 tackles and an interception for a Bridgewater defense that limited Catholic to just 227 yards on the afternoon.

Catholic was led on the ground by a 56-yard effort from Pitsenberger.

Cordivari struggled in his final game with the Cardinals, going 18-of-30 for 122 yards while throwing four interceptions.

Alonzo Cooke led the way for the Cardinals on the receiving end with four catches for 49 yards.

Kevin Ross led the Cardinals defense with 11 tackles and one sack.

Bridgewater controlled the time of possession battle by a 33:37-to-26:23 margin. The Eagles also finished the day 9-of-15 on third down.

The Eagles wrap up the 2012 season with a 7-3 overall record.
