Salisbury earns third straight bid to NCAA football tournament; hosts Rowan Saturday
INDIANAPOLIS – The Salisbury University football team will host Rowan University in an NCAA tournament first-round game Saturday at Sea Gull Stadium at noon, the organization announced Sunday.
The selection marks the ninth overall and third straight for Head Coach Sherman Wood's Sea Gulls, who have earned the Empire 8 Athletic Conference title and the automatic qualification to the field of 32 in each of their first two years in the league.
Salisbury (8-2) comes in with a 7-8 (.467) all-time record in the NCAA tournament. The Sea Gulls and Profs have met 20 times with Rowan holding a 12-7-1 edge in the series.
Rowan (7-2) received an at-large bid to the field after finishing second in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
The Sea Gulls advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in 2011, defeating Western New England University and Kean University before falling to eventual national champion, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
