After plays from Defiance College's Aaron Smith and Jon Carrabino were voted as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's Highlight of the Week on September 8 and 15, the two are now finalists in the vote for the HCAC Highlight of the Year.

Smith set a record for the highest percentage of votes garnered in his week-two victory. The freshman running back notched over 97 percent of the vote, pulling in 253 of the 259 votes cast for his 58-yard touchdown sprint at Adrian on September 8. The rush was Smith's first collegiate score and held up has his longest rush of the season.

Carrabino followed the next week by setting a contest record with 1,216 votes and also posted the largest margin of victory by eclipsing the second-place highlight by 500 tallies. Carrabino hauled in over 60 percent of the vote, for his career-high 80-yard catch and run to pay dirt on September 15 against Rose-Hulman. The senior receiver went on to earn Second-Team All-HCAC status with career-highs of 31 receptions, 552 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Both videos have netted well over 1,000 views on social media outlets such as the Defiance College YouTube, Facebook and Twitter pages. The clips will now go up against eight other plays from Franklin, Hanover, Rose-Hulman, Manchester and Bluffton in the HCAC Highlight of the Year vote.

Voting is open to the public on the HCAC website and will close on Wednesday, November 21 at 10:00 am.
