Football Community Service Event: Privateers Celebrate Earth Day By Cleaning Up Sea Wall On Campus

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 24, 2012) – This past Monday, April 22, was Earth Day – a worldwide event to demonstrate support for environmental protection – and the Maritime Football team focused its community service around the day. Members of the Privateer football team did their part helping the environment by cleaning the areas around the sea walls that surround the SUNY Maritime College campus.
The team gathered at the Admissions Welcome Center near the front of the campus and worked their way south towards the area just underneath the Throgs Neck Bridge. Along the way, the student-athletes collected all trash and substances that may have caused harm to the waters around campus.
The team gathered enough trash (including numerous water bottles, plastic bags and cartons among other things) to fill over 20 garbage bags and four pick-up trucks full of garbage that was taken to the dumpsters on campus.
