Four Hamilton College football coaches attended the 10th annual Lauren's First and Goal Football Camp at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., where a record amount of more than $104,000 was raised for pediatric brain tumor research on June 2.

Head coach Andrew Cohen and assistant coaches Bill Spicer, Matt Wright and Jeff Friedman '05 participated in the camp, which is the primary fundraiser for Lauren's First and Goal Foundation. All proceeds from the event, including camper registration and donations, go directly toward the foundation's mission of supporting pediatric brain tumor research, patient services and families living with the disease.

During the one-day camp, nearly 2,100 high school athletes received instruction in a variety of offensive and defensive skills from 316 college coaches from 114 colleges and universities. The coaching contingent included a member of the New York Jets staff and 10 from the Kicking Connection.

Cohen coached three NESCAC all-conference players in 2012, including two on the first team, in his first season with the Continentals. Spicer is in his seventh year as an assistant coach and works with the defensive line. Wright is in his sixth year at Hamilton and coaches the offensive line. Friedman is in his third year on the staff and coaches the defensive backs. He was a three-year varsity letter winner at defensive tackle for the Continentals.

The event was created in 2004 by John and Marianne Loose in honor of their 16-year-old daughter Lauren, who is a pediatric brain tumor survivor. The foundation has raised $168,000 this year, and since its inception has donated more than $1.5 million toward the fight against pediatric brain tumors and cancer.
