Matt Wade Joins Pacific University Staff As Co-Offensive Coordinator

FOREST GROVE – Pacific's connections to the vaunted UC Davis football program continues to grow with the selection of Matt Wade as the program's new co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Wade was hired earlier in May.  He replaces Jim Craft, who left in April to join the coaching staff at Division I FCS Cal Poly.  Craft had been the Boxers' offensive coordinator since the program's reinstatement in 2009.  Wade will share offensive coordinator duties with Ian Falconer and will oversee the program's passing game.

"Matt's background in a very similar offense to ours and his approach to developing young men of character make him a tremendous fir for Pacific," said Pacific Head Football Coach Keith Buckley.  "As we take the next steps as a program, his schematic creativity and attention to detail will only expand what has been a successful passing game for us to this point.  I am excited to see what the partnership between Coach Falconer and his experience, with Coach Wade's fresh ideas, will mean for our offensive success in the fall."

Wade arrives in Forest Grove after seven seasons at UC Davis, where he had stints as the tight ends coach, wide receivers coach and worked as the Aggies recruiting coordinator.

"I am excited to jump in with this young program," Wade said.  "This is a team that gets better every year.  I look forward to working with a great group of young players, getting some more wins and working towards a conference championship."

In Wade's role as tight ends coach, he assisted in planning the pass and run game operations and also was the lead coach for the punt return team.  Wade was responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Aggies' recruiting efforts and actively recruited the San Francisco Bay Area.

Prior to his work with the tight ends, Wade spent the 2009 and 2010 campaigns as the team's wide receivers coach.  In those two seasons, the Aggies were ranked among the top-40 teams in Division I FCS in passing yards.  Wade was tight ends coach in 2007 and 2008 and began his career in 2006 as a defensive assistant coach.

The move to Forest Grove reunites Wade with Keith Buckley, who was the assistant head coach at UC Davis until accepting the Pacific position in 2009.  "Keith is one of the main reasons I took this job," Wade said.  "I know that he is a great leader and a great football coach.  I am excited to work with someone that I know is setting the program in the right direction."

Prior to UC Davis, Wade as an assistant coach at Ygnacio Valley High School in Concord, Calif., where he coached the defensive back, receivers and quarterback.  In 2005, Wade the program's co-offensive coordinator.

Wade played one year of college football at Saint Mary's College in Moraga, Calif.  He played his prep career at Ygnacio Valley High School.  A native of Concord, Wade graduated from Saint Mary's in 2003 with a degree in business and a minor in economics.  He earned his master's degree in education and California teaching credential from Chapman University in 2007.  He and his wife, Natalie, were married in June 2008.

Pacific will begin their fourth season back on the gridiron on Sat., Sept. 6, when the Boxers travel to Adrian, Mich., to face Adrian College.  The home schedule opens on Sat., Sept. 14, with their lone night game of the season against Occidental.
