LOS ANGELES — Food trucks, tailgating and the home openers for both the Occidental College football and volleyball teams will have the campus buzzing on Saturday night.
The Oxy volleyball team, which is off to a 6-2 start, faces La Verne at 6 p.m. in Rush Gymnasium. The Tigers football team plays a non-conference game against Austin College at 7 p.m. at Jack Kemp Stadium.
There is plenty to do before and during both events. Oxy has its annual Meet the Coaches event at 5 p.m. on the Track, there is a student tailgate in the Bengal Room (across from the Jack Kemp Stadium concessions stand) at 5:30 p.m. and a food truck for all Oxy staff and students will be parked on the Southside of Alumni close to the Softball Field.
All-SCIAC libero Madyson Cassidy and outside hitters Dana Michels and Stephanie Gann are the household names for the volleyball team. Michels is leading Oxy with 107 kills, Gann has 91 and Cassidy is known for making spectacular defensive plays.
The Oxy football team lost on the road to Pacific in its first game of the season but the Tigers moved the ball well on offense with All-SCIAC quarterback Tommy Edwards, receiver Samuel Stekol and running back Kwame Do making up most of the work.
Both games will be live streamed here.
