HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata College football team has started to receive notice nationally for its play this season. The Eagles (3-0) received votes for national ranking in the first American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Coaches' poll of the year. Juniata is one of three Centennial Conference teams mentioned. All three are currently undefeated.
"To receive votes demonstrates how hard our players have worked and the effort they've put in," said head coach Tim Launtz. "But we need to continually define ourselves and not let others define us."
Other Centennial teams in the poll were No. 13 Johns Hopkins and Ursinus. Hopkins is also ranked in the D3football.com top 25 poll.
The Eagles are off to their best start since 2002. They have averaged 38.7 points per game while holding opponents to under 17 points per game. Their 22-point win margin start to the season is the best of any team since the 1959 squad. The 2013 Eagles are one of four teams in program history to defeat opponents by over 20 points in each of their first three games.
Juniata heads to Lancaster next to face off against Franklin & Marshall College. Game time is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. Eagle fans can listen to the contest live on Juniata's GameCentral by logging onto juniatasports.net and clicking the Listen Live link.
