More news about: Millikin

The Millikin University football team won a wild game 52-49 at Aurora University on Sept. 28 in Aurora, Ill.

Millikin rallied from an early deficit to get back in the game and then held off Aurora in the fourth quarter to win the game.

The game was decided with 47 second remaining when freshman Chayce Volpert hit a 30 yard game winning field goal for Millikin.

Millikin got a big game offensively from Sean Dunning who rushed for 186 yards on 25 carries and scored five touchdowns.

Aurora opened the scoring on a three yard touchdown run by Jake Apple.  Millikin then answered on its next possession to tie the game at 7-7 on a four yard run by Dunning.

Aurora scored twice in the second quarter to build a 21-7 advantage scoring on a 26 yard run by Apple and a 33 yard pass from Jace Koerner to Camerhon Guyton.

Dunning scored again from one yard out with 11 seconds remaining in the first half to make it 21-14 Aurora.

Millikin tied the game on its first possession of the third quarter on another Dunning one yard touchdown run.

Aurora answered with a 15 yard run by Koerner to go back on top 28-21.

Millikin would then score two more touchdowns in the third quarter.  A 70 yard kickoff return by Mike Blakely set up Millikin for the tying score at 28-28 on a Dunning four yard run.

Millikin then went up 35-28 on a 22 yard pass from Nick Pippin to Avery Aina to close out the third quarter.

Aurora tied the game at 35-35 on another touchdown run by Apple.

Dunning put the Big Blue up 42-35 with 9:15 left in the game on a 45 yard touchdown run.  Millikin then went up 49-35 when Pippin connected with Brady Cufaude from 39 yards out.

The Millikin defense couldn't stop Aurora who answered back with two touchdowns to tie the game at 49-49.

Millikin's game winning drive began with just over four minutes left to play and was highlighted by a 45 yard run by Dunning.

Millikin freshman Treyvon Hawkins sealed the Big Blue victory with an interception with 20 seconds remaining.

Pippin was 14-25 passing for 181 yards and two touchdowns.  Justin Brooks rushed for 97 yards as the Big Blue piled up 303 rushing yards on the day.

Apple rushed for 180 yards and four touchdowns for Aurora.

The Millikin defense was led by senior Jake Hazelton who led the team in tackles with 13 and had one fumble recovery in his first action of the season.  Safety Daniel Beresky had eight tackles and an interception.  Freshman linebacker Matt Madrigal had seven tackles including 1.5 tackles for a loss and a fumble recovery.

Millikin goes to 1-2 and Aurora falls to 0-3.  The Big Blue opens CCIW play on Oct. 4 hosting Illinois Wesleyan at 1 p.m. during Millikin's Homecoming celebration.
