Manchester University visits Defiance for HCAC battle
Manchester University goes in search of back-to-back victories as it visits Justin F. Corresel Stadium on Defiance College of Ohio's campus Saturday, Oct. 12. The Spartans take a 1-4 overall and 1-2 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference record up against the Yellowjackets.

Spartan Shorts: MU is coming off a 34-7 win at its 2013 Homecoming game Oct. 5 over Bluffton. Coach Shannon Griffith and his staff named the following as Players of the Week after the victory – junior running back Austin Adams (Dowagiac, Mich.) – Offensive/senior linebacker Zach Dashner (South Bend, Ind.) – Defensive; freshman place-kicker Riley Ellington (Indianapolis, Ind.) – Special Teams; freshman defensive lineman Jon Staton (Pittsboro, Ind.) and sophomore wide receiver Evan Rice (Gosport, Ind.) – Gold Team … Adams turned in a personal single-game career high in last weekend's win with 140 yards rushing. It was the most for a Spartan back since senior quarterback Nick Williams (Fort Wayne, Ind.) went for 143 against Hanover last November … The pair were each in the top five of the HCAC rushing statistics' report. Their three touchdowns are part of a four-way tie for second trailing only Rose-Hulman quarterback Ryan Landwehr's six. Williams' 55.8 yards per game are fourth best … On the NCAA Division III report, MU is in the top 20 in fewest penalties (14th – four per game) and punt returns (18th – 15.44 yards per return). Senior linebacker Dylin Kennedy (North Manchester, Ind.) continues to be in the top 10 individually, averaging eight solo tackles per game for the number six slot … Defiance leads the all-time series 28-19, but the Spartans have claimed four of the last five contests. The run includes a 34-28 thriller at North Manchester last year and a 32-6 win at Defiance in 2011.
