GAITHESBURG, Md. (October 14, 2013) – The Maritime Privateer football squad had a pair of representatives this week as revealed by the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference for the sixth week of the 2013 season on Monday afternoon.

For the first time this year, Maritime had the leagues top defensive player in junior defensive end Hugh O'Brien (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury). Also, for the fourth straight week the Privateers had the league's top special teams player as kicker Diogo Dietrich (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, DePaul Catholic) earned the honors for the third straight week.

O'Brien picks up the league's top defensive player award after a one of his best games of the season. His biggest play off the game came deep in the Becker territory as the defense pushed back the Becker offense and O'Brien collected a fumble and scored the team's first defensive touchdown of the season to put Maritime up by two scores late in the fourth quarter. In addition to his scoop-and-score, O'Brien was credited as one of the team leaders with five tackles including a seven-yard sack against the Hawk quarterback for his team-leading third sack of the season, O'Brien also collected a pass breakup.

Dietrich nets his third straight special teams award after he put together a perfect afternoon kicking the ball in the team's win over Becker. First on field goals, the sophomore collected his career-best fourth made field goal of the season to open up the scoring for Maritime. As the team then added four touchdowns, Dietrich was also perfect going 3-for-3 on extra point attempts for a game-total of six points. In addition to his offensive success, Dietrich had another career-day on kickoffs as he amassed a season-best 347 yards on six kickoffs for an average of just under 58 yards per kickoff.

Maritime (2-3, 2-0 ECFC) will be back in action on the road this Saturday when the team travels to Northfield, Vt. for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff against the Norwich Cadets.
