GAITHERSBURG, Md. (October 21, 2013) – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference announced its weekly awards for the 7th week of the season, and for the second straight week Maritime had the league's top defensive player of the week as sophomore Kameron Knight (Clayton, N.C./West Johnson) picked up the award.
In Saturday's game on the road in Northfield, Vt., Knight amassed a season-best and tied a career-high with 11 tackles, nine of which were solo tackles on the game. Included in his 11 tackles was also a career-best with 2.5 tackles for loss against the Cadets, which totaled a loss of 14 yards for the Norwich offense.
Knight also collected a pair of forced fumbles for the Privateers, both of which were recovered by the Privateers to start key offensive drives that led to 14 points for Maritime off of the turnovers caused by Knight. With those 14 points, the Privateers took a 21-20 halftime lead.
This is Maritime's second straight ECFC Defensive Player of the Week award after defensive lineman Hugh O'Brien(Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) picked up the honors a week ago. The team now has a league-leading 11 player of the week awards between offensive, defensive, special teams, and rookie accolades.
