Heizman, Coffiey Pick Up Weekly ECFC Offensive and Defensive Awards

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (October 28, 2013) – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference announced its weekly awards for the eighth week of the 2013 season with Maritime picking up a pair of awards. Freshman quarterback Ryan Heizman (Commack, N.Y./Commack) picked up offensive player of the week accolades after his record-setting performance, while junior linebacker Nick Coffiey (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy) snagged defensive honors with his all-around effort in Saturday's victory.

Heizman helped the offense score four touchdowns on the game as he provided 210 yards of the team's record-setting 550 yards rushing on the afternoon. His individual 210 yards places him second in single-game rushing yards behind current teammate Kyle Gardner (Amityville, N.Y./St. Anthony's), who had 221 yards earlier this season against Anna Maria. Three of the four offensive touchdowns were scored by Heizman as his first score was an eight-yard sprint into the end zone to start the second half. On the next Privateer drive, he picked up his second score on a 16-yard dash, and kicked off Maritime's offense early in the fourth quarter with his third touchdown of the game.

On the defensive side of the ball, Coffiey registered 14 tackles, including seven solo tackles to add to his season total. Coffiey now sits in a tie for 21st amongst NCAA Division III players with 7.0 solo tackles per game. At the end of the first half, he collected his second fumble recovery of the season to end a Castleton drive and send the game to halftime. In the third quarter, he intercepted his first pass of the year on a 1st-and-10 play to help end another drive for the Privateer defense, and later helped end another series in the period on a 10-yard sack on 3rd down to force 4th down and a punt.

Maritime (3-4, 3-1 ECFC) will head back on the road for its final contest away from Reinhart Field on Saturday afternoon against Husson for a 12 p.m. kickoff.
