Guilford Puts Nine on All-ODAC Teams

FOREST, Va. – Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) football coaches tabbed nine Guilford College students to their annual all-conference teams, the league announced Wednesday. The Quakers' Tyler Hunt, Adam Smith and Satiir Stevenson were first-team picks. Hunt, Wes Johnson, Matt Pawlowski, Josh Schow and Robert Smith were second-team honorees. Guilford's Tyler Eller and Alex Smith earned Third Team All-ODAC recognition.

Randolph-Macon College senior running back Will McGhee was named the league's J. Stokely Fulton Offensive Player of the Year. Hampden-Sydney College mentor Marty Favret won the league's Coach of the Year Award and the Tigers' Tyler Ikwild garnered Lou Wacker Defensive Player of the Year honors. Emory & Henry College senior quarterback Kyle Boden won the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Football Scholar-Athlete prize and Washington and Lee University running back Marshall Hollerith was named the league's Rookie of the Year.

A third-team kicker in 2012, Hunt was a first-team pick at punter and a second-team selection as a place-kicker. The sophomore leads NCAA Division III with a league-record 43.1 yards per kick average in 41 attempts. Hunt put 12 of his kicks inside the opponent's 20-yard line and forced eight fair catches. He booted a school-record 81-yard kick Sept. 14 at Methodist University, which is tied for the longest in NCAA Division III this season. His 76-yard kick Nov. 16 versus Emory & Henry ranks ninth in the nation. Also a Second Team All-ODAC place-kicker, Hunt ranked third among the league's kickers with 51 points. He converted six-of-12 field goals and made all 33 of his point-after kicks, which led the ODAC and set a school standard.

Receiver Adam Smith collected First Team All-ODAC recognition a year after his second-team all-league honor in 2012. The sophomore stands second in the conference with 780 receiving yards and a career-high eight touchdowns. He caught 41 passes for an average of 4.1 receptions per game, the league's ninth-best figure. Smith enjoyed three contests with 100 or more receiving yards, including a seven-catch, 226-yard, three-touchdown performance in the Quakers' Oct. 26 win over Randolph-Macon. The 226 receiving yards rank third in school history and 18th in NCAA Division III this year. The performance earned Smith a spot on the Scoutware/D3football.com Team of the Week.

Stevenson earned his second straight first-team all-conference honor and his third overall. The junior safety led the league with four interceptions and paced the Quakers with a career-high 81 tackles, the league's eighth-best figure. He broke up five passes and also returned punts for Guilford, averaging 8.2 yards per return. Stevenson had a pair of 10-tackle efforts, including a career-high 16 at Catholic. After three seasons, the team captain ranks seventh in school history with 10 career interceptions.

Johnson started all 10 games as the Quakers' left tackle. The 6-3, 260-pound sophomore helped clear the way for Schow, Guilford's first 1,000-yard rusher since 1994. He also protected for the team's passing offense, which ranked third in the league with 247.5 yards per game. Guilford averaged 383.1 total offensive yards and 27.7 points per contest. Guilford rolled up a school-record 705 total offensive yards in the Quakers' win over Shenandoah University, the 10th-highest figure in Division III this season. Johnson has started in 19 of his 20 career appearances on Guilford's line.

Pawlowski improved on his ODAC Rookie of the Year campaign of last season by throwing for a league-high 24 touchdowns and just three interceptions in 10 starts. He completed 61.7 percent (190-of-308) of his passes, the second-best figure in school history. The sophomore's 2,373 passing yards rank sixth all-time at Guilford and third in the ODAC this season. Pawlowski had three 300-yard passing games, including a career-high 394-yard effort versus Randolph-Macon that included four touchdowns. He completed a school-record 83.9% (26-of-31) of his passes for 360 yards and career-high six touchdowns in an Oct. 12 win over Shenandoah. After two seasons, Pawlowski ranks third among Guilford's career passing leaders in completions (395), yards (4,816) and touchdowns (39).

Schow, a little-used rookie in 2012, started the season with seven straight 100-yard rushing games, the second-longest such skein in school history. He finished with 1,023 rushing yards, fourth-best at Guilford and the most by a Quaker since 1994. Schow stands third among the league leaders with 102.3 rushing yards per game and 11 rushing touchdowns, second-best in school history. Schow had a 41-carry, 191-yard effort versus Averett University Sept. 21 that matched Guilford's standard for carries in a game. His 191 yards rank ninth all-time in school history and were the most by a Quaker since 1998. Schow also had 16 catches for 124 yards and ranked fifth in the ODAC with 114.7 all-purpose yards per game.

Robert Smith shared the team lead and ranks eighth in the league with 8.1 tackles per game. He was a First Team All-ODAC honoree in 2012 and a second-team pick in 2011. Smith made 79 tackles, which stood second on the team, and paced the Quakers with five stops behind the line of scrimmage, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. Smith had 10 or more stops in three of his nine games this season, including 12 tackles in league wins over Washington and Lee and Randolph-Macon.

Eller is a Third Team All-ODAC defensive lineman for the second straight season. The junior started all 10 games, mostly in an interior line spot, and recorded 32 tackles, one for a loss. He ranked second on the team in tackles among the Quakers' defensive linemen and had five games with four or more stops, including a career-high six in Guilford's season-opening win over Greensboro College. After three seasons, two as a starter, Eller has 80 tackles, eight for loss.

Alex Smith is also a repeat selection to the All-ODAC third team. The senior safety stood fourth on the team with a career-high 57 tackles and made one interception. Smith had two games with 10 or more tackles, including 12 in the Quakers' Nov. 9 contest at Catholic University of America. He made four tackles and his lone interception of the year in Guilford's win over Randolph-Macon. A three-year starter and two-year captain, Smith concludes his career with 123 tackles in 31 games.

Coach Chris Rusiewicz's Quakers posted the program's first winning record (6-4) since 2007 and finished second in the ODAC with a school-record 5-2 mark. Guilford could return as many as 18 starters in 2014.
