Second Quarter Dooms Blue Jays, St. Scholastica Wins 48-12

The second quarter of Saturday's football game versus St. Scholastica doomed the Westminster Blue Jays as the Saints put up 27 points. The Blue Jays lost 48-12, moving them to 5-4 on the season and 5-3 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). St. Scholastica became the UMAC Champions with the win as the Blue Jays stay in third place. 

The Saints scored first with a 27-yard pass just 2:15 into the game to put them up 7-0.

With 32 seconds remaining in the first quarter, sophomore Latif Adams rushed the ball in four yards for a touchdown. Senior kickerKevin Ludwig's PAT failed, giving the Saints the 7-6 advantage heading into the second quarter.

The Saints scored on a 13-yard run with just a 58 second drive to take the 14-6 lead to start the second quarter. 

On the following drive, the Blue Jays scored on a 25-yard pass from freshman quarterback Eain Roberts to freshman wide receiver Peair Howard. They went for the two-point conversion to knot the game at 14-14, but the attempt failed, leaving the game at 14-12, St. Scholastica. 

The Saints went on to score three more touchdowns in the quarter, totaling 27 points in the second quarter alone. Heading into halftime, the Saints led 34-12.

The Saints scored a touchdown in the third and their seventh touchdown in the fourth to win 48-12.

The Saints recorded 685 offensive yards while the Blue Jays had just 289. 

Roberts threw 11 completions for 128 yards and a touchdown. Adams tallied 142 rushing yards on 26 attempts with a touchdown. 

Ludwig averaged 54 yards per kickoff and 42 yards per punt. 

Senior Carlos Weeden Jr. led the Blue Jay defense with nine tackles. Freshman Anthony Washington tallied eight while five Blue Jays had seven. Junior Ayo Oyesanya recorded one sack. SeniorSteve Smith and freshman Kinge Ndanga each grabbed .5 of a sack, and eight Blue Jays posted a tackle-for-loss. 

The Blue Jays' regular season finale is next Saturday, November 7, at 12:00 pm. They host Minnesota-Morris as they celebrate Senior Day prior to kickoff.
